Early retirement

Former Baltimore mayor and Maryland governor William Donald Schaefer moved to a retirement community on Thursday – against his will.
Schaefer’s aide, who has power of attorney, secretly sent movers to the 86-year-old’s house while they lunched, then drove him directly to his new home in Catonsville. The aide tried to move him three weeks ago by sending movers while Schaefer was home, to which Schaefer responded: “I’m not ready yet. Get out. Scram.”
Schaefer was initially angry with the sneak attack, but has resigned himself to his new home. His aide and some friends believed that he was too frail to live alone any longer. Others feel that the actions of his aide were insulting.
I’m inclined to agree with the latter opinion. If I trusted someone enough to give them power of attorney, I would hope they wouldn’t forcibly relocate me to a retirement community. Express concern, hire a home health aide — sure. But kidnapping seems a little over the top, doesn’t it? Although maybe that was the point…

“That’s so goddamn dumb, I can’t believe it… [She] ought to be damn happy that I observed her going out the door. The day I don’t look at pretty women is the day I die.”
All I have to say is watch out nurses.
But really, that is horrible. I'm sure it is in his best interest, but I really hope no one ever kidnaps me and forces me to live somewhere against my will.

Wow, no one is safe from the retirement home. Even if you are parent to an entire state your kids will eventually put you in a home. But I'm sure it's a nice home. Not like the dump I have picked out for my parents.

William Donald Schaefer is lucky I wasn't in charge of his living arrangements. Personally, I would have opted for an ice floe somewhere in the arctic circle.
