Mayorless Baltimore

Sheila Dixon is not our mayor. Technically.
It looks like the Circuit Court Clerk can really hold a grudge. Frank Conaway, who ran against Dixon in last year’s primary, is bitter. Maybe because of the election, but also because Dixon was sworn-in by Gov. O’Malley rather than Conaway, against tradition. Because he was snubbed, Conaway decided he wasn’t going to provide the proper documents for the ceremony, even though that’s his job. In typical fashion, the City said “screw it” and went ahead without them. Unsurprisingly, we now have a problem.
Because no one bothered to obtain a Certificate of Incumbency for Dixon, the City can’t issue any bonds (and who knows what else) because Dixon can’t prove she is actually the mayor. Conaway is still holding his ground and refuses to sign and seal the proper documents, unless he is able to swear in Dixon himself.
In an unrelated story (or not), Conaway’s home has been burglarized three times since October. With each break-in, he has replaced his big-screen plasma TV, only to have it stolen again and again. Maybe he should just sign the papers and enjoy his new television.
If Baltimore City can’t follow procedure for something as simple and essential as this, it really makes me wonder what other corners they’re cutting. I guess we’ll find out soon enough.

I would like to agree with the poster above me regarding his comment toward the attractiveness of the author of this fine journalistic piece. I would also like to say that I would never think that Baltimore, the center of everything that is moral and good in this world, would be at the heart of such an atrocity. Shameful.

Even is Sheila Dixon were sworn in ... Baltimore would still be without a Mayor ! ! ! They should send her , O'Malley and Bush over to Iraq ... they may do something constructive there ... None of them have done anything here except HARM !

I enjoy the Bmore smash as much as anyone, as I struggle everyday asking myself why this city is so backwards and hard on its residents... But, at the same time I just wish people would spend an equal amount of energy reporting and commenting on the positive stories about Baltimore, giving it a chance to grow and break free from its backwards stigma.
Maybe spend the time to report some work done by local community activists or successes of local small business owners...
Want to hear some songs about local hard times and life's struggles, then check out Soul Cannon and go to their CD release party April 25th.

Here's a solution. Fire Frank for refusing to do his job and replace him with an adult.

What are you an idiot? The clerk is an elected official. You can't just fire him. It's typical liberal democrat Maryland politics. It's all about power and revenge. It doesn't matter whats good for the city, or the state. They screw each other over as much as the people.
