Private school problems

Canton residents are mad — a new school is coming to their neighborhood, but they don’t want it.
Canton Middle School is scheduled to close soon, much to the relief of its neighbors, who allege that the students caused numerous problems. According to a pediatric social worker who lives near the school: “There’s groups of children that wander up and down the alleys. They crawl under people’s decks and smoke pot.”
But now, the site of the old Canton Middle School will become the home of the privately-operated Friendship Academy of Science and Technology, one of six new “innovation” schools set to open in the city this fall.
The community is angry that this decision was made without their input. So much so, their City Council representative, James Kraft, is threatening to stall the school system’s budget when it comes before the council for approval.
Every other city neighborhood is home to a middle/high school, without the complaints of lack of input and falling home values that these residents have. Why should Canton be any different than the rest of Baltimore?

Schools are the soul of every community. Canton should embrace the idea.
If only Towson were so lucky to have someone trying to give them a school. Unfortunately, despite having the most overcrowded schools in the state of Maryland, they're having trouble getting one built. Nobody wants to pay for it.

HAHA...Laura said:"Schools are the soul of every community". Well, maybe that's why Canton DOESN'T want one. Is there a soul in Canton? Not in my opinion and this story helps my point. Poor kids. Maybe they could get bussed up to Towson.

Ignoring the bad press that kids have gotten in the city recently (Sara Kreager, Jolita Berry, Zach Sowers), the fact of the matter is that the school board promised to shut the facility down and then completely reneged on that promise and tried to slip it in without the community noticing.

@Mouth Breather - seriously, could we expect the citizens of Canton to behave any differently? Canton is the anus of Baltimore City. And for the record, if you live within a block of Patterson Park, you DONT live in Canton...you live in Patterson Park.
Most of the douchebags that are complaining about the school either don't have kids or if they do, you can be sure they don't attend public school.

I'm tired of Daily Breather! Is he your boyfriend or your Stalker, Lori? Because he likes to post to your blurbs the most. In fact, he's usually the first one to post to your stuff and sometimes the only one. So, do you know him Lori? Or he is just an anonymous sycophant loser? And, YCKTR, I'd love to know where you live. If Canton is the anus of Baltimore, then your neighborhood is conveniently located to Canton right past the taint!!!!

Nope, I don't know him. But I'm here to spark discussion so I do appreciate the comments -- from him or you or anyone else. Keep 'em coming.
