A comedy of errors for the O’s

Things get sour when you haven’t fielded a winning baseball team in 10 seasons. Just ask the Orioles. There’s been a couple of good moments since the team’s last playoff appearance in 1997, but for the most part, there hasn’t been much to cheer about if you’re a birdwatcher. Which of these memories defines the past decade of Orioles baseball?

Don't complain about the O's. Last night's game alone should have been enough to let you know that the 2008 team is for REAL. Wow, just wow!

I'm not complaining about the Orioles. They are playing well right now and the future is looking a lot brighter than it did a year ago. But you can't totally ignore the past decade. Every franchise has its ups and downs. That's what makes being a sports fan fun.

Who knew that Ripken getting into the hall would be numero uno? I voted for it, but I do like what Matt did there. Memorable does not have to equal good. Wasn't Osama Bin Laden voted Time magazine Man of the year?
Have you ever had a really good friend? Let's say a best friend. Have you ever had that relationship fall apart? Perhaps this has happened...
You run into that ex-best friend years later following the huge blow-up. You have not talked to this person in, oh, let's say ten years. But one night, you run into him or her at a local bar. There is that awkward conversation. The "how ya beens" I call it. Minor pleasantries. The emotional connection is not there anymore, but you let the anger go. That is the first step in re-establishing a friendship. Maybe it works out, maybe it does not, but you never know. Of course you will not walk out of the bar, being best buddies again, but that foundation has been set.
Just because you were not talking to the person, does not mean they ceased to exist. You just need to walk up to them and say hi. That is what it is like with the Orioles. They deserve a second chance, so long as they do not sleep with your girlfriend again.
