‘American Idol’: The votes, the Davids, the shame

As Marissa reports in today’s b the paper, the “American Idol” judges awarded the evening — and the season — to that ridiculous Utahan David Archuleta (NOT that we have an opinion; it just helps if the person deemed an “idol” cannot be simultaneously deemed a “child”). This kid is riding “Imagine” for all it’s worth (John Lennon, RIP).

Oddsmakers at bodoglife.com and nsawins.com, though, gave 1-2 odds for Cook and 3-2 for Archuleta. (That’s mildly favorable to Cook, for those who profess to know nothing about gambling.)

Poking around the Web, I sense that most bloggers and reporters are withholding judgment, save to describe how the judges larded praise on Archuleta. The most opinionated take is from David Barnes at USA Today, who calls Cook original, but gives it up to Archuleta.

So, here are a few Idol-related questions to tide you over until tonight:

What is “American Idol’s” most shameful contribution to society?

  1. According to the previously bullet-proof, but recently as-reliable-as-an-exit-poll-in-Texas "Dial Idol," Cook wins in a walk:

I think, though, that text voting has made predictions based on calling patterns less of a lock than before.

    Still. Go DC!

  3. American Idol. 60 minutes of my life that I will never get back.
