Getting heart healthy

First, the facts: Each year, more women die from heart disease than breast cancer, stroke and lung cancer combined. It’s the leading cause of death among black women.
But, there’s hope. Local heart disease survivors will tell their stories during a free seminar “From the Heart: Life Lessons of Heart Disease” from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Reginald F. Lewis Museum (830 E. Pratt St. in Baltimore).
Topics range from depression after diagnosis to lifestyle/environmental factors that increase your chance of developing heart disease. There will also be a health fair, including tips on healthy cooking alternatives (mmm…) and blood pressure screenings.
St. Agnes Hospital and BlueCross BlueShield are behind the day. They paired up to launch A Sister’s Heart, a statewide initative to bring attention to heart disease through education programs and health screenings. For more info, go to sistersheart.org.
