City may offer bicycle parking

Good news for those of you who bike to work downtown — especially if your boss doesn’t appreciate you bringing your wheels inside the office for safekeeping.
If there is sufficient interest, the Parking Authority may provide secure parking for bicycles, beginning with its garage on Baltimore Street near City Hall. Contracts for the spots — which would be bike racks inside a gated area on the first floor of the garage — will cost $5 to $10 per month. The parking spots would be also be monitored by security cameras.
The pilot program will cost the city anywhere from $5,000 to $15,000, should they decide to implement it.
The city is looking for 20 to 30 people with interest in the program. If you are one of them, contact Tiffany James at the Parking Authority (443-573-2800 or tiffany.james@baltimorecity.gov).

My office has parking underneath the building for our govt vehicles. In the morning I simply bring the bike into the garage and put it on the bike rack. I also have shower facilities at the gym on the second floor. My 7 mile commute never makes me sweat in the morning as it is mostly downhill.
Oddly enough if I drive to work and park for free up near Eutah and Centre Streets and then walk it takes me 40-45 minutes. If I bike to work it takes me 30 minutes.
Some days I have to drive as I umpire in the evenings and need to go places that are not in the direction of my home.

Oh yeah, I'm DYING to pay 10 bucks per month to park my bike in a lot and then walk 20 minutes to work. Sure beats chaining it up for free right outside my office.
I hope Tiffany has a good book to read while she's waiting by the phone.
I love when the city tries to implement a plan that has so obviously NOT been researched. For further reading on the topic see: The Light Rail
