Guilty Pleasure Movies

I was looking at my DVD collection the other day, trying to decide which ones I would take over to the boyfriend’s place, and noticed my taste in movies is a little strange if not questionable. I mean, I have the necessities like the “Evil Dead” trilogy, several TV series like “Kids in the Hall” and first season of “Quantum Leap”. But next to “Memento” and “Night of the Living Dead” was “Bill and Ted’s Bogus Journey”. That’s right, not even the first “Adventure”, but the sequel.
Years ago Pizza Hut was doing a promotion where you buy a pizza and get a movie for free. My brother and I, having watched “Bogus Journey” numerous times when we were kids, were elated that this was a choice. Later on, our pizza arrives and what do we get? “All Dogs Go to Heaven 2″. Apparently, they were out of “Bill and Ted”. I was determined to see this movie again, drove to Best Buy and bought it. A wise investment for a movie that has everything: quotable lines like “STATION!”, the grim reaper, board games, evil robots, time travel and a Faith No More cameo. Don’t believe me? Watch the trailer:
Here are some more movies I’m a little ashamed to say I love:
Teen Wolf - Combines two of my favorite things, ’80s camp and Michael J. Fox. I’m still surprised no one was more frightened that there was a werewolf in the school, then again, it’s all about tolerance. Morals AND a basketball playing monster.
Titanic - An oscar nominated movie, but suggest this on movie night and you’ll never be invited again. It’s sad, it’s beautiful, there’s humor and history (sort of). You can’t really blame me for being 12 and having a crush on Leo DiCaprio. This was my favorite movie until I saw “Mallrats” for the first time which leads me to…
Mallrats - My favorite movie of all time (just let it go). From just the first 5 minutes, I was sold. Kevin Smith (director and writer) still pans this and regards it as one of his worst movies, but it still has a huge following. I’m proud to have a Brodie action figure on my desk…ok…maybe not proud…
Super Mario Brothers - I’m probably going to get a lot of crap for this one but it’s so bad it’s good. I remember seeing this movie with my family on vacation in Colorado when it came out. I saw it for the first time in years a few months ago on TV and it was still hilarious. Goombas dancing in an elevator puts it over the top. Go to the videos section and watch the trailer to relive some wonderful childhood memories.
