More on Dixon: Today’s press conference

Sheila Dixon held a press conference this morning in front of City Hall, during which she lashed out at the media for publicizing the details of the investigation while alleging that there is a leak in the prosecutor’s office.

Dixon said: “What really bothers me is that I can’t talk about it but certain people, certain media people, are getting information from the prosecutor’s office. It doesn’t give me a fair opportunity to share.”

She declined to speak on the issue of the gift cards. When asked for a comment on her Chicago spending spree, Dixon said: “I don’t buy that often, but when I buy, I buy quality.”

Anthony McCarthy, Dixon’s former chief-of-staff during City Council days and then mayoral spokesman, is still scheduled to appear before the grand jury this week. His attorney, Dwight Pettit, who earlier stated that a Baltimore jury would never convict Dixon if this case goes to trial, had this to say: “Mr. McCarthy has no idea what they’re looking for or what questions they might have…. The grand jury is totally the show of the prosecution. As one expert said the other day, a grand jury can indict a ham sandwich.”

McCarthy abruptly resigned from his position at City Hall back in November while being investigated by Baltimore County police on an apparently unrelated case. No charges were filed, but McCarthy never returned to work in Dixon’s office.

Despite it all, Dixon is still trying not to let the investigation get her down: “I’m trying to keep the city running and moving and stay focused. In my heart, I did nothing intentionally in any of this. This has legs on it that’s trying to destroy my character.”

If nothing else, at least we’re getting some good quotes out of this case.

  1. Was she wearing her knee pads?

  2. Mayor,
Let's be serious Miss Dixon, you have been selecting people for jobs because of race and hiring relatives for many years. Know one should be in office for not being fair on city contracts or jobs. What is that statement in which I believe in 100% people should be picked/hired for their character and not color.

  3. @Stephen

    Huh?

    !

  4. What an embarassment. Sheila Dixon was elected Mayor of this town, and now she's going to lash out at the press for DOING THEIR JOBS? This press conference was amateur hour. It's like she's never done this before. What a joke.

It's called accountability to your constituents and freedom of the press Sheila. Look into it.

Can we please move this city out of the dark ages of big-city political corruption?

  5. Also...Sheila should probably practice humble silence at this point. Everything that comes out of her mouth is just ridiculous at this point.

    !

  6. This whole thing is almost as shocking as those two murders in Federal Hill over the weekend!
    /Idiot from the 11th district

Actually, its not that shocking. It is sad. Comical yes, but mostly sad.
