Obama and Clinton in Unity

Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton will appear together today for the first time in Obama’s campaign at a rally in Unity, New Hampshire. You can watch the event live online at 1 p.m.
Not only does Unity have the perfect name for the occasion, but the town of 1,700 residents also awarded the same number of votes (107) to each candidate during the country’s first primary back in January. Very poetic.
Thursday, the two met with Hillary’s top fundraisers in Washington DC, where she urged the donors to throw their support behind her former rival. Meanwhile, Obama has pledged to help Clinton pay off her $10 million campaign debt. To that end, he wrote a personal check to Clinton for the maximum amount allowed by law: $2300 each from him and wife Michelle.
Clinton’s campaign chairman said: “Whatever [Obama] decides to do, whatever role for Hillary, she is ready to go, and she will do whatever they ask her to do in the fall campaign. We’ve done conference calls all over the country to all of our people. ‘OK, you know we tried, we gave it everything we had. Now it’s time to move forward and support Senator Obama.”
Clinton is working hard to convince her former supporters — mainly working-class voters and women — that it’s okay to support Obama now. There is a fear that many of these people will instead line up behind John McCain, who is working hard to get the votes of these demographics.
It seems unlikely that a former Clinton supporter would go so far as to cast their vote for the Republican candidate, but I guess stranger things have happened. You tell me, Hillary fans: will Obama get your vote in November, even if Clinton isn’t on the ticket as VP?
