If you’re looking for groundbreaking music game experience, get a PS3 or Xbox360 — the Wii version is too dumbed down to seem the least bit innovative.
Don’t get me wrong — I love the Wii. It’s completely different from everything else out on the market and yadda, yadda, yadda… But when you look at this particular game critically, it’s really only a marginal step forward from the Playstation 2 version of the game released in December.
While the game initially comes with a healthy selection of songs, one major point of lacking is the fact that the Wii version does not currently support downloadable content, unlike it’s PS3 and Xbox 360 counterparts.
Instead, Harmonix has announced that it will create a series of “Track Pack” expansions for the Wii and Playstation 2 versions that can be purchased, containing a number of the tracks already available as downloadable content on the Xbox 360 and PS3. The first Track Pack will be released in North America on July 15, 2008.
On the gameplay front, Rock Band for Wii is essentially the same as all the rest. The same guitar, mic and drum set peripherals as every other system — nothing all too special at all.
To sum it up, if you only have a Wii, get this game. But if you have any of the other powerhouse systems (Xbox 360 or PS3) get those versions.
Anywho, now that I’ve been playing Rock Band at my friend’s place for a few hours I need to get myself home to bed so I can put together your favorite free daily newspaper tomorrow! See you next week!
