The can’t-miss weekend sports list

Other than the O’s and Nats battling for Beltway supremacy in D.C., this weekend’s best sports action will take place across the pond in Europe. The weekend weather forecast is calling for rain, so get the potato chips and remote control ready for a long weekend on the couch. Who needs a tan anyway?
3. Wimbledon, third and fourth rounds (All weekend on ESPN 2): What the Masters is to golf and the Wayden Transportation Classic is to curling, Wimbledon is to tennis. The finest tournament in tennis is just starting to heat up, and the action at the All England Club hasn’t even reached the fourth round yet. One specific match to watch out for: a potential matchup between Roger Federer, the No. 1 player in the world, and the scrappy, energetic Lleyton Hewitt, one of my favorite players on tour.
2. Orioles vs. Nationals (Friday, Saturday and Sunday on MASN 2): The O’s and Nats renew their budding interleague rivalry this weekend in D.C. As always, you can catch the games on TV, but if you’ve got some time to kill, consider heading down to the Nationals’ new stadium (weather permitting of course). It’s allegedly gorgeous.
1. Euro 2008 Finals - Germany vs. Spain (Sunday @ 2:30 p.m. on ESPN): In a classic final between two European powerhouses, the Germans and the Spaniards will compete for the European Championship. It has taken three weeks to narrow the field from 16 teams down to two, but the two teams left standing have a lot of offensive firepower. I’m not one of those soccer snobs who insists that it’s far superior to all sports, but the tournament has been awesome so far. Don’t take my word for it, tune in on Sunday to see for yourself.

Safin is inconsistent and isn't a big fan of Wimbledon, but if he gets his attitude in check you could potentially see him in later rounds. Big IF.
Hewitt has an attitude, too, but for some reason it's more tolerable than Safin's.
I would have liked to see Roddick move on, but he's out.
Don't forget the girls, either. Sharapova's out, though. You guys have lost your eye candy.
You can watch highlights and matches live at www.wimbledon.org.

Alisia:
What, Sharapova played tennis? I thought she might be a model with a racket (grin).
Matt: Thanks for the shout out about the Euro Final. HOT DAMN, this should be a good one. Germany has a lot of talent, but I have a soft spot in mi corazon for Spain. Too bad they won't have David Villa, but it looks like Cesc Fabregas may be peaking.
GGGGOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAALLLLLLLLAAAAHHHHHH!
