The can’t-miss weekend sports list

Hey sports fans, this upcoming weekend should turn out to be a good one. The O’s may not be in town, but the LPGA is, and there’s plenty to choose from on television. Here’s what to watch for this weekend:

3. McDonald’s LPGA Championship (today through Sunday on the Golf Channel): The ladies are teeing off for one of the LPGA’s four major championships this weekend in Bulle Rock Golf Club in Havre de Grace. Annika Sorenstam is looking to pick up another LPGA Championship during her farewell tour but Lorena Ochoa will be standing in her way. I recommend making the short drive to catch the action in person, but for you couch potatoes, it will be on TV, too.

2. NBA Finals, Game 2 (Sunday @ 9 p.m. on ABC): There’s no better way to finish up the weekend than a potentially classic matchup between the Lakers and the Celtics. You know the history — this is the 11th time they’ve met in the Finals — and you know the stars — Kobe, Garnett, Pierce, Gasol and Allen. Besides, it’s the NBA Finals … do you really need a reason to watch?

1. The 140th running of the Belmont Stakes (Saturday @ 5 p.m. on ABC): This one’s a no-brainer. It’s been 30 years since the last Triple Crown. Will Big Brown be able to make history on Saturday? Tune in to find out.

  1. Hello? French Open Finals?
For when you wake up from attempting to watch golf.
    : )

  2. Don't get me wrong, I'm a tennis fan, but the French Open just isn't doing it for me this year. Another Federer-Nadal final would be fun, but I think it's a foregone conclusion that Nadal will win his fourth straight title at Roland Garros.

That being said, if you do want to check out the French Open Finals, tune into NBC on Saturday morning (women) and Sunday morning (men).

  3. Matt,
Unbelievable! starting on 6/7/08 one of the
biggest soccer events will start across the pond(Euro 2008) and not one comment on "b" regarding the most popular sport on earth!

Let's think outside the box will ya?

    Sanchez.

  4. Sanchez, thanks for the input on this. Euro '08 definitely should be watched, but since it is just starting up with pool play, it got placed on the back burner last weekend. It's exciting now, but it's going to get 100 times better once it hits bracket play.
