what the frak?

Fanboy Feasting No. 3

So I’m watching Battlestar Galactica on Friday, as I do many Friday. Trying to watch, listen and enjoy one of my favorite shows. Suddenly my roommate interjects “Oh my God, I hate how they use that word [frak]. It’s sounds so stupid. Why don’t they just write the script around the word?!”

According to Battlestar Wiki, frak is a Colonial expletive, roughly analogous to s— or even the milder “rats” or “darn” of the original series.” Think of it as the shows’ creative way to sneak in the “F” word without getting taken off air.

Wikipedia goes even further in explaining how, in the phrase’s current framework, frak functions in several different forms:

as an interjection (”Frak!”), inquisitive idiom (”What the frak?”), verb (”You’re not still frakking Dualla are you?”), adjective (”Get your motherfrakking hands off me!”), a noun (”You miserable frak”) or in words (”What a clusterfrak.”)

My roommate doesn’t appreciate the word’s brilliance. He thinks it interrupts the pace of some scenes and quite honestly can’t help but laugh every single time he hears it.

What do you think?

  1. Frakin' Frak. I love the word but never watched BG. I got the word from the Lobo comics about 10 yrs ago. Lobo goes one further by adding bastich to my new repetoir. Frakin' bastich. I love how Wikki has an entry for it. It is now real and that's about frakkin' time.
