And for the more cerebral minded, on PBS tonight is “Traces of the Trade: A Story from the Deep North.” 10p. First-time filmmaker Katrina Browne makes a troubling discovery — her New England ancestors were the largest slave-trading family in U.S. history. She and nine fellow descendants set off to retrace the Triangle Trade: from their old hometown in Rhode Island to slave forts in Ghana to sugar plantation ruins in Cuba.

what a crappy thing to discover about your family. it seems every family has some kind of secret in their past.

Marissa:
Against my better judgement, I am watching Wipeout...god I don't know why. Silly stoopid, but pretty funny. One of the previous 'Talk Soup' hosts is an announcer, so snarkiness guaranteed! Help, I can't look away!
On the cerebral side, I found out some years ago that one of my great-great-great + grandfathers was a mountain man who married at least 4 wives (one was 15), fathered about 27 children and made his own moonshine! And most of this was noted down in an old family bible, I was told! I suppose that explains my rogueish streak...

i'm not sure what's worse. that's japan has game shows like that or we have a reality show like this? a toss-up really

It's not often you get to combine bibles and moonshine. Oddly enough, when my mother told me all this, I felt...proud! I guess it was the right kind of sordidness: interesting without being truly revolting.
I couldn't bring myself to watch the Japanese thing. Some sort of weird 'meta-TV' vibe, with the show about the show. Too many mirrors back to back!
