Bill Cosby and Sheila Dixon together today

Mayor Dixon is hosting the Operation PROTECT Block Party this afternoon in Park Heights. The festival features a number of attractions, not the least of which are 1) free food and 2) Bill Cosby.

I don’t have much information on the event beyond what’s available on the city’s website, but it begins very soon, so if you’re interested, get on your way. The block party runs from 4 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in front of St. Ambrose Catholic Church. Just a note: You’ll have exactly 3 minutes to take pictures of Bill Cosby, so have your cameras ready and waiting.

The block party concludes an eight-week effort by the city to reduce crime in the Park Heights neighborhood through Operation PROTECT (Public Resources Organizing To Empower Community Together). The joint effort of residents and city agencies attempted to spruce up the neighborhood through vacant lot clean-ups and graffiti removal, among other things, in hopes of creating a “cleaner, greener, healthier and safer neighborhood.” If you go, be sure to let me know if that effort was successful.
