Finally! A Target in Baltimore!

Target Dog
And if you’re asking why it matters, consider the fact that there are very few options for this type of big box shopping in Baltimore.
As WJZ explains (click), there are three K-Mart stores on the fringes of Baltimore. (Full disclosure: I freelance for WJZ, too.) There are no Targets and no Wal-Marts.
The store will employee about 250 people, mostly residents of West Baltimore where the store will open on Sunday.
The opening is part of a $70 million campaign to give the Mondawmin Mall a makeover.
This is great news for residents of West Baltimore who have had to put in lengthy commutes in order to buy things on the cheap. And, full disclosure: I am a little bit of a Target lover. And out of the Wal-Mart/K-Mart/Target choice, I will side with Target every time.
This will make me much more likely to swing by Mondawmin. How about you?
Psst. By the way, they are also putting a Starbucks inside.

Still doesn't help me out - I live in the inner harbor. Besides - who needs Target..support local business...it's easier than you think. Although I do agree with you somewhat - in the big box spectrum, I tend to side with Target as well...

I agree with YCKTR, support local business!
I was glad to see and hear that there weren't any Big Box Marts in the city just for that reason.

I didn't know that we were missing a big box store. I knew we didn't have one but I didn't think we were supposed to miss it.
I guess if I wanted one I would be living in White Marsh or (dare I say it) Bel Air. I like the idea of not having those stores near me. Kinda makes me feel less lazy and that ain't bad (unless you live in Bel Air)

Oh wait...I remember. Isn't that Target coming in near the Shoppers in Mondawmin? I can't see your B readership spending much time near Mondawmin. They'll go once, maybe twice. I don't go to Mondawmin because there'e nothing there that I need. Now a Target. Still nothing I need. I'll give it 8 months.

I'm excited that it's finally open. Before, I had to go to Towson or Reisterstown to shop at Target, now there's one about three blocks away from my house. Sweeeeeeeeeet.

I'll buy local when local businesses earn my money. That day would occur sooner if they stopped being whiney butts and braying for people to buy local and started to compete.
