Bad news continues for Currie

Prince George’s County senator Ulysses Currie will be facing another investigation after this ongoing federal probe ends.

The Senate president, Mike Miller, has announced that Currie will come before a Maryland legislative ethics committee, according to the Washington Post. This will happen even if the feds drop their investigation into Currie.

According to the Post article, “The General Assembly’s ethics committee may recommend sanctions, including censure or expulsion of a member. There are no civil or criminal penalties associated with violating the state ethics law at issue.”

Great, this saga will not be ending any time soon.

Currie really is proving himself to be a disgusting man through all of this.

It’s obvious that Currie violated state ethics rules. He didn’t declare on his state financial forms that he was a paid consultant for Shopper’s Food and Pharmacy, and that he used his powerful role as chairman of the Senate Budget and Taxation Committee to further his role as a consultant.

According to various reports, including one in The Sun, Currie was paid more than $200,000 by Shopper’s over the last five years. So, no — this isn’t a simple case of a little mental error. Currie intentionally misused his office and thought no one would catch on.

Even though people did catch on, Currie still denies any wrongdoing. It’s true that as of today he still hasn’t been charged with anything. But, we all know that will soon change.

When this is all over, Currie will have wasted hundreds of thousands of dollars in tax payer funds to pay for the investigation into his unethical acts. This is akin to what we’d all be saying today if Hillary Clinton stood up at the convention last night and said, “Even though it’s certain Barack Obama will be the Democratic candidate for president, I’m not going to concede. I want delegates to pledge for me!”

Currie — give up! You’ve lost this one. You were caught. You were found out. Now stop wasting tax payer money.
