Get pumped for this year’s Virgin Fest line up

There’s going to be a little bit of everything this weekend. Classic rock, hip-hop, electro-pop, Virgin Festival has it covered. I’ve mentioned a few artists that will be in Baltimore this weekend in previous music blogs, Foo Fighters, Wilco, Gogol Bordello, and with good reason, their music is amazing. How can you not love a song like this:
It was nearly impossible to pick just 5 so read on to listen to the rest of the top 10 acts I’m dying to see at Virgin Festival:
Foo Fighters: I know this is the ump-teenth time I’ve talked about my love for the Foo so I’ll spare going into detail. Instead, I’ll post the song that spawned their enormous career. Who else swoons at Dave Grohl’s voice?
Gogol Bordello: They can sit down while performing and still melt your face! If you want to check out a band that you’ve never heard of before, this is the one to see. Expand your horizons, it’ll be good for you.
She and Him: The collaboration of actress Zooey Deschanel and musician M. Ward. I really liked this band before I even knew my girl crush, Zooey, was in the band, which, sadly, was quite recently. The video is a little strange but is charming. Love it.
Stone Temple Pilots: Most ’90s alt. rock band are either 1. broken up, 2. band members are dead, 3. still coked out. STP have already been most of these so it’s pretty damn cool that they’ll be performing. Who knows when it will happen again?
Nine Inch Nails: I was late in the NIN game (that “Closer” video scared me as kid, stupid twirling pig head), but I heart Trent Reznor and I think I can brave his theatrics now that I’m older. The video is a little sketchy but it’s old-school NIN and you can’t beat that:
The Go! Team: I was introduced to this band by a friend who (almost) has better taste in music than me. A new twist on hip-hop, The Go! Team is just feel good music and you’ll be guaranteed a good time with their show.
Kanye West: There’s a good chance I’ll be the only chubby white girl in the crowd for Kanye so if you see me dancing, feel free to join me in my nerdiness and quasi-rapping.
Andrew Bird: I WILL get all fan-girl when it comes to Andrew Bird. He’s so crazy talented that he leaves me in awe. He plays who knows how many instruments and his lyrics are so non-sensical that I’m still not sure what most of his songs mean. Either way, the guy is amazing.
Chromeo: They’ll be in the dance tent, but everyone needs a dance break now and again. Chromeo reminds me of ’80s new wave/pop with a hip-hop beat. Win-win in my book. They’re still not all that well known, so go see their set before they blow up and you can tell your friends you saw them way back when.

I really wanted to go to Virgin Festival. But by the time they announced their dates, Otakon was already set, and while I *really* want to see Foo Fighters, KT Tunstall, Go Team, etc. live, I can see them anytime. JAM Project will only be in America once. And Otakon is Otakon. And it's only $55 for the whole weekend (free for me since I do a panel). So duty calls

Marissa:
I'm with you on the Foo Fighters and Gogol Bordello. DIG THEM. Alas, for me I can't make it. So take some good pics!
For another POV on Chromeo, check this out:

They seemed too goofy the first time I saw the video, but I don't know, does bring back some '80's memories for me.
Personal trivia bit: I have a picture of Trent Reznor's house in New Orleans, I took it about 7 years ago. I was the only one in our little group who recognized the name when our tour guide pointed it out. I felt so hip...
