Lil' Weezy got on stage 40 minutes late this afternoon, but was worth the wait

It may have taken him a little while, but Lil’ Wayne just delivered one of the best performances at this year’s Virgin Fest — with a little help from a friend: Kanye West. After a slow start to his set this afternoon, the Weezy Show got into full swing after Lil’ Wayne played several hits from his new CD, “The Carter III,” with everything coming to a fantastic climax as his hit single “Lollipop” started to blare over the speakers. But as the song started to reach the verse, Lil’ Wayne yelled “Remix!” and Kanye West — signature backpack, white glasses and all — rushed out onto the stage to spit his verse from his remix collaboration with Lil’ Wayne.

The crowd let out a high pitch shrill once they realized Kanye had taken the stage and quickly surged forward to get closer to the scene. Kanye was only on stage for one song, Lil’ Wayne’s last, but it set the tone for his performance later tonight.

As for Weezy, after arriving on stage nearly 40 minutes after he was scheduled to perform and with an amped-up crowd starting to grow restless, he quickly diffused the situation with a little humor, announcing “My name is Weezy F. Baby and I’m too short for this mic.” The crowd was pretty dead at first, but he quickly won them back with “Carter III” songs like “Got Money” and “Mrs. Officer” and the popular mix-tape gem “The Sky is the Limit,” one of my personal Weezy favorites. He redeemed himself in my heart at least, which I’m sure means a lot to him.

Lil’ Wayne also serenaded the ladies with a solo verse from “Prostitute 2,” played a little bit of guitar and treated the audience to a poetry jam with this creative poem: “Roses are red. Violets are blue. I love my money. Oh, the b—-, I do not love you.” And I can’t even begin to explain his spoken-word rap entitled “[expletive] Monster,” with the expletive standing for a part of the female anatomy. Unbelievable. Lil’ Wayne certainly put on a show today, though, with a little bit of everything for everyone, showing why he’s become one of the most popular rappers in the world today. And after seeing him take the stage with Mr. West, even if it was for just one song, I’ll admit that I’m totally fired up for Kanye’s performance tonight. Look for me in the front row. I’ll be the grown man screaming like a little girl.

  1. at first i thought it said "weezer" and i got all excited.
    way to tease, MV

  2. I forgot to add that Lil' Wayne left the stage to Whitney Houston's "I Will Always Love You." Classic.

  3. Once Lil Wayne finally hit the stage, two of his 3 rules were "I ain't (expletive) without you (the fans)". But he had no problem making everyone wait.

Once I heard that BS line, I just decided he wasn't (expletive) period and went to the other stage.

  4. I'm with you Jeremy... the guy is a ****. The delay cut into The Black Keys set (they thanked Lil Wayne for that)

  5. The who, Black Keys when was the last time they went platinum in a week ?

  6. Im sure that who everyone came to see hahahaha

  7. Popularity doesn't necessarily equal talent

    Sheep.

  8. I feel bad for anyone who missed STP for any rap performance let alone one like that. I heard it was horrible.

  9. STP and Lil' Wayne were not performing at the same time.

  10. Lil Wayne was playing at the same time as Iggy and the Stooges. I left after a few songs to get over and see the The Black Keys. Unfortunately (for me and not the flock)Lil Wayne was still playing.

I think I've got my timeline correct. By that point I had had a few $9 Stellas in me. I could be wrong.
