Fanboy Feasting No. 12

Alright, I get it. Now that George Lucas and the folks at Lucasfilm have hit audiences worldwide with, now, two trilogies, a wealth of both good and bad video games and a seemingly endless supply of toys and collectibles, they’re looking to expand their already massive reach over fanboys, sci-fi geeks and simple fans to an even younger audience.

That’s the reason Star Wars: The Clone Wars was even made, right? I have mixed feelings…

Arguments for senseless targeting of the world’s youth: It’s a freaking cartoon on CG steroids! This point alone could be good or bad. A good thing as it probably made it a lot easier to illustrate the use of various force powers, in addition to other areas that would require a substantial load of special effects work. Bad in that the style of the film could turnoff fans who are craving more grown-up Star Wars content.

How it could help the franchise: Star Wars: The Clone Wars is adding storyline, plain and simple. While anyone who actually cares about what happened between Star Wars Episodes 2 and 3 already knows, this is an opportunity to reach out and rake in a wider audience, spark the imagination of younger viewers (who grow up into bigger viewers) and possibly answer some storyline questions from the main chapters of the two trilogies.

Tell me how to feel — I honestly can’t decide.
