Bay Bridge construction halted

Just in time for the Labor Day holiday, and after days of warning people to avoid it, all lanes of the Bay Bridge are open today with normal traffic patterns.
As WBAL Radio reports:
State transportation officials decided suddenly, and without advanced notice to the media, to suspend work that closed one of the two eastbound lanes on the Bay Bridge on September 1.
The reason for the decision to open up the Bay Bridge again is because holiday traffic is expected to be extremely heavy as people return from the Eastern Shore.
The decision comes just days after a Baltimore Sun reader sent in the following question to the paper:
Do officials really think that someone is going to crash through the deteriorating barriers in the next few days? No one went through the barrier in the several decades prior to the recent crash, and no one has gone through since.
Apparently, the answer to that question is “no.”
So, enjoy your holiday from lane closures. They’ll be back at it tomorrow, making traffic horrendous again.
