From today’s b, the paper

These Marylanders — and Republican alternate delegates — will be giving you an inside look at the Republican National Convention, straight from Minneapolis-St. Paul. Be part of the experience at bthesite.com and in print this week.

justin shuy 21, OLNEY
POSITION: Alternate delegate; board of advisers for Maryland Teenage Republicans
POLITICAL WORK: Went door to door to help gather 10,000 signatures to put John McCain on Virginia’s ballot
WHY HE LIKES MCCAIN: “One of the biggest things I respect about him is his maverick attitude. He doesn’t sugar-coat anything.
POST-CONVENTION: Planning to help campaign in Virginia, Montgomery County and perhaps Pennsylvania.

daniel zubairi 31, BETHESDA
POSITION: Alternate delegate; helped found Maryland Teenage Republicans; former chairman of Maryland College Republicans
OWN EXPERIENCE: Ran unsuccessfully for Congress in 2006. McCain endorsed him.
YOUNG REPUBLICANS: “Kids involved in our campaigns are an interesting mix. It’s middle class, poor kids, rich kids. It’s the most ethnically diverse base you’ll ever see.”
CONVERTING: “[Last week] I just had lunch with a former Hillary supporter. Now, they’re on our side.”

jerry walker 34, GAMBRILLS
POSITION: Alternate delegate; chairman of Anne Arundel County Republican Party
SHIFTING SUPPORT: Originally supported former Sen. Fred Thompson
IMPORTANT ISSUES: “Protecting the sanctity of marriage, the issue of life, protecting the 2nd Amendment. … How that person will address social issues is important to me.”
OVERCOMING OBSTACLES: “The last poll I saw had Obama with a 12-point lead in Maryland. We’re going to work just as hard as if we had a 12-point lead or it was neck-and-neck.”

  1. Yeah Jerry let's make sure Brittany Spears can get married to some random guy for 24 hours...but not those Ho-Mo-sexuals. No way. Never.

People like that scare me...they're so clearly out of touch with reality and thoroughly unwilling to explore the possiblity of an alternate perspective. And I LOVE LOVE LOVE how they claim to be christian yet their ENTIRE agenda is steeped in hate and opression. Oh yeah, you're just brimming with love there chet.

And then there's Daniel and his lovely statement of:

"It’s middle class, poor kids, rich kids. It’s the most ethnically diverse base you’ll ever see."

I bet he doesn't even realize that he just made a racist generalization there. Seriously Daniel...really?

Oh boy...I can't wait to hear more from this crew...fish in a barrel.

    !

  2. I always wonder why guys like Justin Shuy support Republicans and their war mongering ways. Why doesn't that dough boy get down to the recruiters office and get his ass of over to Iraq pronto?

He's the tyoe of person that typfies why we need a draft in this country. He'll support a guy whose willing to keep our troops in Iraq for 100 years, but he's too much of a pussy to serve himself.

  3. Why on earth would he do that? Fighting oil wars is for minorities and poor people...we need people like Justin draw from their limited life experience to make important decisions about other people's lives.

And I almost forgot, from Daniel:

"I just had lunch with a former Hillary supporter. Now, they’re on our side.”

Danny...when someone runs away from you with blood squirting from their eyes, it doesn't mean they agree with you.

    !

  4. Any Hillary supporter who supports McCain's policies is obviously a racist first and a liberal second. McCain is the polar opposite of Obama.

It's one thing to support Hillary, but to support McCain and his archaic policies simply because Hillary lost shows me nothing more than thos 10% of Hillary supporters that might vote for McCain are racists. They might as well hand over their vaginas to Scalia if Obama loses cause McCain gets three Supreme Court nominees.

  5. This is funny...sort of...

  6. It would almost be funny .. except.. has this twang of premonition. Is sarcastic promotion of apathy actually a self-fulfilling prophecy?

  7. judging by these replies, this country is doomed.. remember kids, BELIEVE EVERYTHING YOU HEAR ON TV.. if the liberal media says it IT MUST BE TRUE..RIGHT...
