Check out these haunted attractions to get you in the Halloween spirit.
Bennett’s Curse
Any haunted attraction that has a “trailer” on its Web site means serious business. BC includes a Sanctuary of Insanity and Dominion of Darkness, which leads one to believe all is not well at Castle Bennett — just as it should be. Runs through Nov. 1. $20-$30. 7000 Arundel Mills Circle, Hanover. bennettscurse.com. {Jordan Bartel, b}
Field of Screams
For all your frightful needs, this Olney hotspot includes a haunted trail, Haverghast Haunted House, the Corn Maze of Mayhem and the Haunted Hayride of Hemlock Hill. $5-$20. Events run through Nov. 1. 4501 Olney-Laytonsville Road. screams.org. {Aubrey Fornwalt, b}
Haunt Fest
What sends you running for Mommy? Possession? Blood-streaked knives? Deviant science? Clowns? (Aha! We knew it was clowns.) Between the Von Dahl Manor and Face Your Fears, there’s a veritable smorgasbord of terrors at Merriweather Post Pavilion — so you don’t have to pick just one. Runs through Nov. 2. $20-$30. thefeargrounds.com. {Anne Tallent, b}
Legends of Fog
Nestled in the fields of Aldino Sod Farms, LOF consists of a 30-minute haunted hayride, haunted maze and Maze of Darkness, all for $20. Through Nov. 1. 500 Carsins Run Road, Abderdeen. legendsofthefog.com. {Brian Krista, b}
Kim’s Krypt
Kim’s Krypt has monsters, chainsaws, blood and even a real hearse with “UR NEXT” on the tags. You could be crying by the time you leave. Open Fri.-Sun. weekends through Nov. 2. $7-$12. 1748 Merritt Blvd., Dundalk. kimskrypt.com. {Alisia Chapman, b}
Markoff’s Haunted Forest
The signature 20-minute candlelit hike through the woods of Poolesville has different scenes to scare your pants off, though you can catch me drinking hot cider around the raging bonfires. Runs through Nov. 1, Thursday through Saturday. $25. Rileys Lock Road. calleva.org. {Tim Wong, b}
Cox’s Point Haunted Mansion
The Web site for Cox’s Point (snicker) Haunted Mansion in Essex dubs it Maryland’s oldest haunted attraction. It also says the fear-inducers will be “polishing off” (snicker again) visitors nightly with different events and frights through Oct. 31. Scary good. $4-$8. 800 Riverside Drive. coxspoint.com. {Ben Pillow, b}
Jason’s Woods
Hayrides, mazes and a museum … not exactly terrifying, right? Well, when you’re possible prey for some backwoods hillbillies, things can get a little hair-raising. Thanks to Jason’s Woods in Lancaster, Pa., my irrational fear of rednecks has grown stronger. Runs through Nov. 2. $15-$40. 99 Stehman Road. jasonswoods.com. {Marissa Richardson, b}
Hubers Farm haunted hayrides/Creepy Woods
Besides pirates, this hayride through the fields of a family-owned northern Baltimore County farm offers a DJ and a corn maze. There’s also a separate Creepy Woods Haunted Forest ($15, every Friday-Sunday in October) that vows to stay open “until either the last customer leaves Creepy Woods safely, or they become the next tortured experiment.” Sounds scary enough to me. $6-$12. 11898 Philadelphia Road, Bradshaw. hubersfarm.com. {Andrew Schaefer, b}
GoatMan Hollow
A haunted tour based on the urban legend of a half-man, half-goat roaming the Maryland countryside beheading dogs and slaughtering teens? Sign me up. Bad news: The attraction’s Web site says you’re not allowed to expose yourself on the tour. Bummer. Fridays and Saturdays through Nov. 1. $15-$20. 6100 Rhode Island Ave., Riverdale. goatmanhollow.com. {Matt Vensel, b}
