Bow brings out vote

Bow Wow once thought politics was only for “old folks,” but the 21-year-old rapper said he’s had a change of heart and wants other young people to vote.

“I used to think going to the mall and hollering at girls (was) more important,” he said. “But in reality, we are in a different time now. My focus now is to take it a step further to make a change and vote.”

On Wednesday he kicked off a 15-city tour urging people to register for the Nov. 4 general election.

He and about 50 followers spent the day walking more than two miles from downtown Atlanta to nearby colleges.

Bow Wow — real name: Shad Moss — said he felt compelled to act after seeing the financial struggles of his family and friends but he’s not promoting any specific candidates.

Several other hip-hop artists are also pushing for fans to vote, including moguls Russell Simmons and P. Diddy and Atlanta rappers Young Jeezy and T.I.

In other election-related celebrity news, Jay-Z, a vocal supporter of Barack Obama, is performing Saturday at a free concert in Detroit to promote voter registration.

Monday is the deadline in Michigan to register to vote in the November 4 election, prompting the last-minute push. Obama has said Jay-Z is one of his favorite musical artists. {AP}

Holy Robin-centric TV show, Batman!

Move over Batman — it’s Robin’s turn in the spotlight.

Variety reports the CW is developing a series based on Robin’s pre-Batman-sidekick days. “The Graysons” would center on the world of Dick “DJ” Grayson before he donned that skin-tight outfit.

The folks behind the project include the executive producers of “Smallville” and executive producer McG (“Supernatural”).

The one-hour show will be set in modern times, with a young DJ in an awkward, adolescent phase — think first loves and family drama. In the original comic book, Grayson was an acrobat with his family, performing as “The Flying Graysons.” {JORDAN BARTEL, B}

Penn texts ex-wife Madonna after kiss

Sean Penn texted ex-wife Madonna after his first same-sex kiss.

Penn plays San Francisco’s first openly gay politician, Harvey Milk, in Gus Van Sant’s new film, “Milk.” James Franco plays his lover Scott Smith.

“After the first kiss, it broke the ice,” Franco said. “And then after our kiss Sean texted Madonna — his ex-wife, Madonna — and said, ‘I just broke my cherry kissing a guy. I thought of you. I don’t know why.’

“And then she wrote back and said, ‘Congratulations.’” {LOS ANGELES TIMES}

  1. Heard about the Graysons the other day. STUPID. Sorry. An 'adolescent Dick Grayson?' Well, Dick was an adolescent when his parents died and was taken in by Bruce Wayne... so, basically, they'll be rewriting the character... that or limiting the life of the series to 2 seasons tops. Why not make it "Nightwing" and have a young, early-to-mid 20's Dick Grayson after he's struck out on his own?

    Everything I've read and seen on Milk looks great... and I'm almost never disappointed by Gus Van Sant... even liked his Psycho remake in in 98. Of course, his cameo in Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back was his best work ever :-)

  2. Yeah, only1, i agree — I'm not sure people will like the character being overhauled and changed.

    "Milk" does look very good. Have you seen the trailer?

  3. yeah... the trailer popped up a while back on aintitcool... but it's been a while since I first saw it. should be avaialble elsewhere by now (yahoo?)... youtube is always good, too.
