We’re going local with the list this week, because all-in-all, this is a pretty freakin’ good sports weekend in the Baltimore area. And that’s not even counting the final race of the NASCAR season. Er, just kidding. Actually, I’m pretty pumped NASCAR will be over and done with for a while. I’m getting sick of ESPN pretending that it’s a sport. Anyway, here’s this week’s all Free State version of the list:

3. Notre Dame vs. Navy (Saturday @ noon on CBS): If you’re not lucky enough to have tickets to Saturday’s game at M&T Bank Stadium, make sure you’re in front of the television for this interesting battle of the independents. There might be nothing better than watching Notre Dame lose, so hopefully the Midshipmen can improbably string together their second straight win against the Fighting Irish. (Side note: Jimmy Clausen needs a haircut. I suggest the Hair Cuttery in Hunt Valley, Jimmy.)

2. #17 North Carolina vs. Maryland (Saturday @ 3:30 p.m. on ABC): UNC-MD matchups are generally more exciting when they take place on the hardwood, but this is a welcome exception. For the first time in many moons, both of these ACC football foes have reasonably high postseason aspirations as they fight to keep pace in the race to play in the ACC championship game. This should be a close one.

1. Ravens @ Giants (Sunday @ 1 p.m. on CBS): The unlikely offensive juggernaut known as the Baltimore Ravens faces a tough test this weekend against the defending champion Giants, whom the Ravens beat way back when in Super Bowl XXXV. With a Baltimore win and a Pittsburgh loss (the Steelers play the Chargers), the Ravens will sit all alone atop the AFC North. Crazy. Don’t miss it.
