Mountain highs: Winter sports of all types are not-so-far away

From today’s b, the paper
First things first: Maryland is not a “skiers’ paradise” and it never will be.
Our area, frankly, pales in comparison to the Rocky Mountain highs of the West. Utah, with its very appropriate “Ski Utah” license plate, is a big f-u to all other states containing snowy mountains. It kind of intimidates us. We also can’t match the picturesque slopes of the Northeast (a hazard: navigating through the New Hampshire stoner skiers).
But, don’t fret. There are still plenty of nice winter sport getaways within driving distance. Check out our picks below. Since money is tight, we’re assuming you’ll just make this a day trip — and ticket prices reflect that.
Have fun, snow bunnies:

I actually tried ski-ing 5 years ago..no joke! That was the worst mistake of my life! My friends been ski-ing before but not me! I had to wera a red vest indicating i was a rookie on the slopes! If you aint never been went ski-ing in person, the top of the hill looks like a 2,000 foot roller coaster drop! My friends fooled me by taking me on the pro-course(no joke)I was going so fast on my 1st career run, then i lost control...lucky now the ski's snap off your feet when you flip! I had to flip and roll down hill for like 200-300 yards! I was literally bouncing off my head! Then to top it off, i stopped by going head 1st into the fence, on the side of the course! That was enough for me...i opted to not ski anymore...i think i may have knocked a few screws loose in my head...ski-ing is suicidal!

Timberline is real noice. Definitely much bigger then all the other powder puff hills listed on here. Be forewarned though, if you separate your shoulder in the terrain park like by buddy did last year, be prepared for an hour drive to the nearest hospital.
