The opening act {thanks, Tiffany Underwood}
9:44 p.m.
The opening act has started.
9:36 p.m.
As more people pour in, they have started to project a slideshow of what we think are Annie Liebowitz portraits. There were a few of the first family, but other than that, I’m not understanding the significance.
9:27 p.m.
I offered to take a photo for some ladies, and we got to talking for awhile because they were having camera issues. They invited me to join them for the evening when they learned of my newly date-less status.
Everyone here is so friendly and clearly excited for the new administration. Most people I’ve run into attended (or at least attempted to attend) the inauguration ceremony. I would be exhausted if I had been going all day like this.
9:10 p.m.
When I got here, I realized that this shindig is a cash bar. I’m not surprised, but I certainly wasn’t expecting that. I had to run downstairs to the ATM, and the bottom is crawling with Secret Service. Once I bought my $7.00 champagne ticket, the lovely gentleman behind the counter informed me that my President won’t be arriving at this ball until 2:30. 2:30?! I’m not devastated yet, but am realizing that I probably won’t see him because the Metro supposedly shuts down at 2.
It’s a tough decision: Barack Obama might be worth getting stranded in the middle of DC for a few hours.
