With the NBA draft just hours away another Baltimore native prepares to make his mark in the realm of professional basketball.

DaJuan Summers decided months ago to make an early exit from Georgetown University where recently he had been one of the teams leaders.

Summers has spent years preparing for today, with the last several months consisting of cross country treks for workouts and interviews with teams across the NBA.

He has kept friends and fans up to date on the lead up to draft day through his Twitter page.

Earlier today he wrote, “I can’t explain how many feelings I am feeling right now! Todays gonna be CRAZY! Shout outs to all my fam who shows me love. I love u back!!”

Summers’ path to the pros went through East Baltimore where he his older sister Regina and younger brother Malik were raised by their mother Twana.

His close family ties have kept him both grounded and focused.

Summers has been a star on the rise since playing AAU and high school basketball in Baltimore City and County.

The 6′8, 236 forward is a former two-time Baltimore Sun Baltimore County Player of the Year having played for McDonogh School where he scored over 1,500 points.

At Georgetown some say Summers’ power and skills weren’t fully underscored after a terrific first half of the 2008-2009 season, but a lackluster second half.

Still like with many rookie players Summers’ is expected to grow into his own once he begins his pro career.

It’s unclear where Summers is headed for sure but analysts expect him to make a major contribution wherever he ultimately ends up.

For more on Summers’ prospects tonight check out the Casual Hoya which keeps up with all Hoyas including Summers.

Bloggers Note: Summers’ and I both attended McDonogh School and lived in the dorms together. So yes though I’m known to be a casual sports fan I’m ready for the draft!
