Heartbreak Drake {thanks, DRAKE}

DRAKE
“best i ever had”
RADIO STATION: WPGC 95.5 — TOP PLAYS FOR WEEK OF JUNE 8
If you’re unfamiliar with Toronto’s Drake (did you never watch “Degrassi”?) and his song-of-the-summer candidate “Best I Ever Had,” then stop sleeping — dude is going places. Quickly. The protege of Lil Wayne, Drake (who is being courted by every major label in the business) is a nimble mix of his metaphor-dropping mentor and Kanye West in his recent crooning phase. “Best I Ever Had,” an ode to his loving woman (“Every single show, she out there reppin’ like a mascot”) has women and men nodding along.  Expect to see the high-school-themed music video in the next few weeks, directed by West himself. Oh, and he’s romantically linked to Rihanna. Damn, it’s good to be Drake. WESLEY CASE, B

MILEY CYRUS
“the climb”
RADIO STATION: LITE 101.9 — TOP PLAYS FOR WEEK OF JUNE 8
Miley Cyrus’ raspy alto doesn’t fit this life-affirming, I’m-gonna-persevere track from the “Hannah Montana: The Movie” soundtrack. She sounds more at home on young-and-fun songs such as “Fly on the Wall.” Don’t grow up too soon, Miley! WESLEY CASE, B

COMPANY OF THIEVES
“oscar wilde”
RADIO STATION: WTMD 89.7 — TOP PLAYS FOR WEEK OF JUNE 8
Company of Thieves is too new to crack our 897 Greatest Artists Countdown, but “Oscar Wilde” is on our minds when we’re not working our way to No. 1. The group’s co-headlining spot at this month’s First Thursday concert was rained out, but you can catch the band live Wednesday night at the 9:30 Club. WTMD

  1. I haven't gotten tired of "best I ever had." Can't wait to hear what else Drake has coming.
