Up-and-coming Baltimore pranksters, keep your hands off Cal.

Remember the guys that stole Cal Ripken’s No. 8 aluminum sculpture in front of Camden Yards in September? The four men, all between the ages of 18-20, pleaded guilty this morning to one count of conspiracy to commit theft over $500. They paid the Orioles $7,618 to cover the cost of repairing the broken sculpture. The Baltimore Sun has all of the info on the case here, but this particular quote jumped out:

After the hearing, [Patrick] Reynolds’ attorney, John Grason Turnbull III, said: “When you and I were young, this was a prank. We’re living in different times now.” He said he told his client: “You’re lucky you didn’t take the number 33 [of Orioles star Eddie Murray]. It would’ve been twice as expensive.”

Moral of the story? Use your head, people.
