The face of television in Baltimore is changing. Yet another familiar face is walking away from broadcasting. On Tuesday night, WMAR’s Norm Lewis announced his retirement from television after a nearly 40-year career. During the course of the last several weeks, WMAR anchor’s Mary Beth Marsden and Terry Owens both left the station after accepting buyouts.

On Friday, Sally Thorner, another longtime broadcaster, is retiring. Thorner once worked at WMAR before making the jump to WJZ. Thorner announced her retirement back in September. The Baltimore Sun’s television critic, David Zurawik, recently named Thorner one of Charm City’s 10 most notable broadcasters.

In the interest of full disclosure: I must reveal that I’ve worked or interned at WMAR, WBFF and WJZ, at different points in my young career, and have crossed paths with each of the broadcasters named in this piece.
