From today’s b, the paper

It’s starting to feel like Tina Fey is running for vice president.

Fey again returned to “Saturday Night Live” to play Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin as the show continued to pull out all the stops in its election year season. Queen Latifah portrayed debate moderator Gwen Ifill, and cast member Jason Sudeikis stepped into the role of Democratic vice presidential candidate Joe Biden.

From today’s b, the paper

The federal Copyright Royalty Board on Thursday left the royalty that songwriters receive on sales of CDs and digital downloads at 9.1 cents per song for the next five years.
Both songwriters and music sellers applauded the ruling — but for different reasons. Apple Inc., which had threatened to shutter its iTunes store if the rate increased, appeared to have scored a clear win.

Workers prepare the stage for the VP debate {AP Photo}
Workers prepare the stage for the VP debate {AP Photo}

I’ll be tap-tap-tapping away on the typer, live blogging the VP debate from my working man’s castle in North East Baltimore beginning at 9 p.m. EST.  Drink ‘em if you’ve got ‘em.  The rules are simple:

1. Every time Palin gives a response that sounds like it was run though a free online language translator, I’m going to have myself a sip of a crisp, refreshing adult beverage (from the Land of Pleasant Living).

2. Every time Biden harps on the Alaska governor’s lack of experience, I will also take a nip.

It’s a good old-fashioned debate party, friends, and you’re invited. But remember: the first rule of Debate Party is, you do not talk about Debate Party…without a beer in your hand.  Let the bloodletting begin.

A campaign is only as good as its candidates.  And while this election season offers some intriguing back stories, historical precedents, and polarizing rhetoric, there’s always going to be that special brand of voter who simply doesn’t seem to get it: The Undecided.  Generally, I see these folks falling into one of two categories.

Bow Wow once thought politics was only for “old folks,” but the 21-year-old rapper said he’s had a change of heart and wants other young people to vote.

“I used to think going to the mall and hollering at girls (was) more important,” he said. “But in reality, we are in a different time now. My focus now is to take it a step further to make a change and vote.”

DIY Scene: Big government wants to intrude on small venues

From today’s b, the paper:

Baltimore City Council President Stephanie Rawlings-Blake has proposed a live-entertainment licensing bill that would reinvent the process for granting venues the right to put on live entertainment, including bands, dance parties, plays and just about everything but stripping. She says the bill would do away with the clunky zoning program as the means for deeming whether someone can have a guy playing fiddle at his coffee shop on a Thursday at 3 p.m., and instead move to a licensing system where a board decides whether the venue owner is fit for the fiddler.
