Fanboy Feasting No. 14

So I’ve been having my way with my friend’s World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King beta test character here and there for the past few weeks (I wasn’t lucky enough to score my own beta testing invite) and, while it’s made me even more excited for what’s to come in the epically popular MMORPG’s future, playing the beta has also sparked a few more questions for me and my friends.

Fanboy Feasting No. 13

With a broadening selection of touchscreen, push-to-talk, basic and smart phones, it’s becoming increasingly difficult to figure out exactly what you want and what would work best for your lifestyle. I know. I just spent almost my whole weekend finding the perfect phone for me and, well, I’m still not sure I made the right decision:P

First things first. It’s time to figure out what kind of phone user you are. Are you a busy working professional who needs to have access to your corporate e-mail at any given time and date? Do you like to have/show off your newest hot gadgets? Or, do you hate anything fancy and just want the most basic phone that resembles that old dinosaur you still keep in your pocket or, even worse, tethered to your car (the car phone)?

Do you think Star Wars: The Clone Wars will do the series justice?

Fanboy Feasting No. 12

Alright, I get it. Now that George Lucas and the folks at Lucasfilm have hit audiences worldwide with, now, two trilogies, a wealth of both good and bad video games and a seemingly endless supply of toys and collectibles, they’re looking to expand their already massive reach over fanboys, sci-fi geeks and simple fans to an even younger audience.

That’s the reason Star Wars: The Clone Wars was even made, right? I have mixed feelings…

Segway, meet Toyota’s Winglet

Fanboy Feasting No. 11

Toyota has developed a motorized, stand-up-and-ride scooter — is this the next up-and-coming Segway killer? (I think I just vomited in my mouth)

The three new personal transporters from Toyota will be able to travel 3-6 miles at a rate of 3.7 mph.

Toyota Motor Corp. has no to turn the Winglet into a commercial product just yet, but testing is planned to begin later this year.

Will this disaster-on-wheels concept ever make it to the mainstream, or will demand continue to be dominated by geek types and rent-a-cops?

Fanboy Feasting No. 10

Every year Comic-Con steps further away from the simplicity of the event’s former glory — looking more and more like a dog and pony show for Hollywood’s upcoming blockbusters.

Does this, in some way, deteriorate from the integrity of an industry once exclusive to only the most hardcore of fans? Possibly. Does that really matter? Not so much. After all, this evolution has helped the comic book industry grow on the whole and has opened peoples’ eyes to comics and graphic novels as legitimate literary works — and even more so as story-and-character-rich fodder as background and subject matter for some of the box office’s most successful ventures (Dark Knight, anyone?).

Here are a few quick snippets about some of Comic-Con 2008’s major movies, along with a few video trailers.

Fanboy Feasting No. 9

I went to the movies twice this weekend (please don’t ask what the second movie was) and got a good taste for some of the Batmania sweeping across the area. Sold out show times and long lines don’t even begin to cover it.

Holy gliding, Batman!
Holy gliding, Batman!

From today’s b, the paper

By 3:30 p.m. Friday, Batman fever had hit Frederick.

After Regal Westview Cinemas’ early afternoon showing, one punctuated by gasps and nervous laughter at Heath Ledger’s Joker antics, there was a long round of applause. Half the filmgoers didn’t get out of their seats at the end.

They wanted more.

Fanboy Feasting No. 8So anyone who’s anyone knows The Dark Knight is hitting the big screen this Friday. Whether you hate superhero movies or love’em, this movie has been essentially impossible not to know about. The Dark Knight has been big in the news, not only from simple anticipation, but also from the death of actor Heath Ledger, who plays the maniacal Joker, the arch enemy to our beloved dark and broody Batman. Even if you’re numb to the entertainment world you’ve probably seen the billboards on the side of the highway or posters with “HA HA HA” and “WHY SO SERIOUS?” scratched in bright red over top images of Batman or the Joker. Fanboy Feasting No. 7

What can I say—I’m a sucker for cute things!

For months (actually, probably years by now), the gaming community has been senselessly teased by Sim’s creator Will Wright and the folks at Electronic Arts about a little game (understatement of the century) called Spore. For quite some time we were strung along, with our salivating tongues hanging out, in awe over the innovative and intensely interactive potential of this game.

So far, we have yet to see the full version of Spore but the Spore Creature Creatorhas given us enough of a taste of whats to come to hold over, for now.

… it’s about freaking time.

Fanboy Feasting No. 6If you actually care, you probably already know about Blizzard Entertainment’s big news from the weekend — legitimate confirmation of the highly anticipated Diablo 3. While the cinematic teaser (above) and gameplay trailer look super slick and pretty fantastic, I’m left kind of wondering a few crucial questions. Read the rest of this entry »
