From today’s b, the paper
This is our motto: If it’s summer, what’s the point in eating indoors? And there’s plenty of good choices all over Baltimore, from chill burger and crab joints to trendy tapas. Here are some of our favorites, because al fresco really is the way to go.

We loved this video so much, we brought it back. — The eds.
Tracy Rice would love nothing more than for children to show up to her happy hour. That’s because she’s the owner of the Baltimore Cupcake Company, a 4-year-old Baltimore bakery. Every Monday through Thursday, she feature a “Cupcake Happy Hour” from 5:30 to 6 p.m. (more a half-hour than an hour, but who’s counting?), when cupcakes are just $1 each.b went to check it out.

It’s time for this week’s installment of happy news… You should soon have more money in your bank account and a (temporarily) lower BGE bill.
Economic stimulus rebates will be arriving a week earlier than announced, with the first round of direct deposits starting on Monday (May 9 for paper checks). Why did the IRS move up the timetable? Well, according to President Bush: “It’s obvious our economy is in a slowdown. But, fortunately, we recognized the signs early and took action.”

For those of you just joining us this week, on Fridays we’ll feature at least one heartwarming story reported in the local news during the week. Last week’s post was only partially uplifting. Let’s see if we can’t do better today.
Wednesday’s Examiner gave space to tell us about senior citizens in Mount Vernon, who are saving their pennies for a donation to the Fuel Fund of Maryland. So far, the residents of Basilica Place have collected 2500 pennies, meeting their original goal. They’ve since upped the goal to 5000.

Sometimes the Baltimore area is indistinguishable from the Seventh Circle of Hell, at least as reported in the media.
Take the top-ten local headlines on the Baltimore Sun’s website as I’m writing this paragraph: 4 are about murders, 1 shooting, 1 drug ring, 1 prostitution ring, 1 child pornography ring, 1 kidnapping, and 1 fatal fire. It’s grim, to say the least. So I’ve decided to start a new weekly feature: the Friday Happy Hour.
