Best…weather…ever

When I stepped outside to leave for work today, I was immediately struck by how perfect the weather is today. Plenty of sun, not too hot, no humidity and a nice, cool breeze.

Then I was saddened by the fact that I’ll be spending just about all of this beautiful day in an office.

If you were to suddenly “fall ill” and have to leave work on this gorgeous day, would what you do? Or if you’re lucky enough to not be working today, what are you doing to take advantage? And yes, ycktr, I’d head to the snowball stand.

What’s your essential B-More summer treat?

With summer winding down, we thought it’d be a good time to ask for your essential Baltimore summer treat.

For me, the answer is snowballs, but not just any snowballs. I’m talking thick chocolate with marshmallow from Walther Gardens at the corner of Walther and Southern Avenues in the city.

I’ve been going there literally since I was in utero, so nostalgia might have something to do with my insistence that this is the best combination of crushed ice and syrup on Earth, but I think it has more to do with the fact that all of the flavors are hand-made in an old house right there on the premises, unlike most stands that use mass-produced flavors from Koldkiss or other brands.

Fanboy Feasting No. 10

Every year Comic-Con steps further away from the simplicity of the event’s former glory — looking more and more like a dog and pony show for Hollywood’s upcoming blockbusters.

Does this, in some way, deteriorate from the integrity of an industry once exclusive to only the most hardcore of fans? Possibly. Does that really matter? Not so much. After all, this evolution has helped the comic book industry grow on the whole and has opened peoples’ eyes to comics and graphic novels as legitimate literary works — and even more so as story-and-character-rich fodder as background and subject matter for some of the box office’s most successful ventures (Dark Knight, anyone?).

Here are a few quick snippets about some of Comic-Con 2008’s major movies, along with a few video trailers.
