I love clothes, but they don’t always love me back. I’ve had my share moments, and I would like to share some.

With winter gearing up, cold weather accessories are darn near a necessity. Hats, scarves and gloves are all well and good, but what about leg warmers? Where is their day in the sun? Well, that day is today!

Far from its trendy, sterile new boutique in Hampden is the unglamorous heart of SquidFire.
It is here, in an early-1900s warehouse near Greektown, in a gritty — and unheated — room overlooking railroad tracks, where company co-founders Jean-Baptiste Regnard and Kevin Sherry churn out masses of whimsical prints on a rainbow of American Apparel T-shirts.

Saturday night was a fun night for me. I got to hang out with a bunch of friends I hadn’t seen in a while, and I bought a fabulous pair of shoes that I can’t wait to wear for the perfect occasion. Yes, this all happened in the same location. Read the rest of this entry »

MARYLAND INSTITUTE COLLEGE OF ART
Now that “Project Runway” is in an ongoing air-or-not-to-air battle, we have to get our offbeat fashion fix somewhere else. Often edgy and eclectic, MICA’s past shows, always featuring student wares, have teetered on the edge between practical and, uh, not-so-practical. This year’s theme is “Kegger,” and since this is MICA, don’t expect a dress made out of beer cans. Instead, each of the collections address themes of indulgence, consumption and beauty. 7 p.m. Saturday, main building. $5 in advance, $7 at the door. mica.edu.

There’s nothing like a little retail therapy to boost my spirits, but when the one thing that gets me down is the economy, it makes for spending money harder to justify. I’ve had a new pair of knee-high boots on my want list for a while now. I recently had to part ways with one of my favorite pair of brown boots, and I’m currently searching for a replacement. Then I found a product that might just help me out, even though it’s kind of weird.

A big trend this fall is lace — and not just on underthings. Just check out how Prada used lacy inspiration. Feminine, unusual and unexpected, lace fabric adds texture to an otherwise Ok form.

You might expect Christian Siriano to be something he’s not.
There’s no incessant spouting of “hot tranny mess” or “fierce” or any of the Sirianoisms that have made the “Project Runway” champ a household name. You expect him to be flip, perhaps even a bit catty. You expect him to be the kind of created-by-reality TV character that America loves to hate.
