As 2010 began, some people resolved to spend more time getting in tune with their spirituality. For those going to church or church-related events, it’s not only about worshiping as they see fit, but also about fellowship and spending time with others of the same faith.  In order to do that, one needs to know where to go and have a reason to show up. Competition is generally a good thing for consumers — it creates choices, leads to innovation and keeps companies trying their best to win them over. Case and point: Barnes and Noble has decided to take on Amazon with the unveiling of it’s new electronic reader. While Amazon’s Kindle has been one of the few e-readers to catch on with consumers, that may not be the case for much longer.

The “nerd” target on Pepsi’s controversial iPhone app {thanks, AP}

PepsiCo Inc. is facing criticism for an iPhone application that promises to help men “score” with two dozen stereotypes of women by giving users pickup lines and a scoreboard to keep track of their conquests.

An apology by the company — which is using the app “Amp up before you score” to market its Amp energy drink — is igniting more online criticism. But the company is sticking by the app.

Spokeswoman Nicole Bradley said the application is available only to people 17 and older who “choose to opt in to the experience.”

“The application was designed to entertain and appeal to Amp’s target. We’ll continue to monitor the feedback from all parties and act accordingly,” she said. The free application, released in the last week, was still available Wednesday morning.

Protecting your online life after death {Thanks, AP}
Protecting your online life after death {Thanks, AP}

If you’re anything like me you have lots of passwords to various Web sites.

Some sites might even be set up to automatically deduct money from your checking account.

What happens if you or a sick relative (who also has tons of passwords to remember) passes away? What’s to stop the companies from continuing to take your money?

Robert Pattinson in “Twilight” sequel “New Moon,” previewing at this year’s Comic-Con {thanks, Summit}

The essence of this year’s hottest properties at Comic-Con can be found deep in the past, or far into the future.

“Twilight” proved to be the most rabid fan-feeding frenzy at last year’s Comic-Con, and its sequel, “New Moon,” stands out among the savory offerings beginning Thursday at the San Diego Convention Center.

Other highlights include Tim Burton’s take on “Alice in Wonderland” and an early look at “Iron Man 2.” James Cameron will also preview “Avatar,” a futuristic adventure that promises a new level of 3-D based on technology the “Titanic” director helped develop.

Local Twitterer Michael Robertson — really excited about his lunch

From today’s b, the paper

Michael Robertson, 26, of Fells Point, Twittered about making a tuna fish sandwich on Tuesday, marking the first time the self-proclaimed “tech-phobe” used the popular social-networking site.

“Oh my god, are you Twittering?” said Robertson, reached via phone. “Or is it Tweeting? This thing is so much fun, I haven’t had time to figure it all out.”

Home from work with a cold, Robertson said he joined Twitter to see what “all the fuss was about.” During a two-hour period, he logged an astonishing 73 Tweets.

“I always thought I was an interesting guy. I mean, people tell me that,” he said. “But I’ve always felt there was more I wanted to tell people about me, like when I’m brushing my teeth.”
