What’s the fewest number of things could you live with?

Chucking your stuff isn’t a new concept. Plenty of people have purged in a major way to start a new life or embrace a new sense of freedom. But in an economy on a ticket south, it’s interesting to think about. It sounds good in theory, but just how low on the scale of owning stuff could you go?

I’m talkin’ personal stuff that is just yours and no one else uses.  There are challenges out there to slim to 100 things. I might be able to do that if I put myself in the right environment.

First things off my list:

1. Iron

2. Vaccuum

3. Bowling ball

4. Office desk

5. Serendipity DVD that I watched practically everyday for six months when I didn’t have TV

Things I’d have a hard time letting go:

What I did this weekend

On Friday, for the fourth time in my life, I took a bus up to New York City for a day trip. For several reasons, one being genuine New York pizza, it was the best trip out of the four.

I haven’t uploaded all of my photos, Lego Chewbacca will have to wait for another day, but here are the favorites:

Best place in B-more for crabs

June 30, 2008 at 9:23 pm by Alisia Chapman

So, we cracked open the crab controversies of Baltimore in a previous post — which led us to some heated opinions. And you guys thought I was joking when I said eating crabs is a sensitive subject to talk about. Hey, it’s serious business.

Now I’m craving crabs and Jeffers Road Jim’s question about the best Baltimore places get crabs didn’t help my hankering any. And it’s got me thinking - mainly about why I’ve never been Conrad’s Crabs before, but also about what is the best place to order crabs.

I think my vote still goes to Bill’s Terrace, but I could be swayed. Got a favorite? Let me know and I’ll check them out.

Soccer … err, futbol … and racism

Watching yesterday’s Euro 2008 semifinal between Germany and Turkey, it struck me when, before the match, one player from each side was handed a microphone and spoke out against racism in the world.

I don’t speak German or Turkish, so I don’t know exactly what was said — ESPN could have done a better job with an interpretation or, at least, a summary of the statements — but I applaud the action. Here in the “great melting pot,” it’s easy for us to get wrapped up in our own race-relations issues (Don Imus, for one, doesn’t need a reminder about that after this week), but racism knows no boundaries, and it has been around a lot longer than the U-S-of-A.

The can’t-miss weekend sports list

Other than the O’s and Nats battling for Beltway supremacy in D.C., this weekend’s best sports action will take place across the pond in Europe. The weekend weather forecast is calling for rain, so get the potato chips and remote control ready for a long weekend on the couch. Who needs a tan anyway? Read the rest of this entry »

What to watch tonight

From today’s b, the paper

Wednesday TV highlights:

travel fact or fiction
8-8:30 p.m. {TRAVEL}
In this new series, an “embarrassing fact” is discovered about San Francisco’s famously crooked Lombard street. Yeah, this is as controversial as Travel Channel gets. Soak it in.

celebrity circus
10-11 p.m. {WBAL-21} NBC
Something I never thought I’d ever write: Antonio Sabato Jr. performs the Chinese pole act.

shear genius
10-11 p.m. {BRAVO}
In the season 2 opener, the competing hairstylists perform a challenge blindfolded and interpret memorable hairdos of cartoon characters. That’s what I like about this show. It’s practical.

You think you know Baltimore? We have a challenge for you — check every Wednesday on bthesite.com to see if you can identify where we’ve taken some close-up photos in and around the city. Guess what and where this is. As the day goes on we’ll show you more of the photo. First person to get it right gets upcoming premiere movie tickets.

I’m slightly bitter he got this so quick, but Jeremy is correct. Mother’s Purple Patio.
