You think you know Baltimore? Prove it. The last few close-ups have been tough ones. Take a guess at what this close-up is and you’re the first person to get it right you’ll win something fabulous (and by fabulous we mean movie tickets, passes to an upcoming show or possibly some b swag). Don’t worry, if you don’t recognize it on the first shot, I’ll show you more of the photo as the day goes on. Good luck!

A new, updated Clue board game

Forget what you knew before, there’s a new Clue in town.

According to the Washington Post, the old board game has been updated by Hasbro to include new weapons (say goodbye to the wrench, lead pipe and revolver) like an ax and poison, first names to the characters as well as biographies about each.

Remember Colonel Mustard? He’s now Jack Mustard, a former football star.

New rooms such as a spa and guest room have also been added.

Way to ruin yet another piece of my childhood. What’s next? Candy Land with the sugar free gum drop castle?

If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.

A monumental trip through Baltimore

We admit it: Monument watching doesn’t sound like the most exciting Baltimore activity out there.

Nor is it the most sexy (despite how phallic some of the statues are. Just sayin’).

Maryland Renaissance Festival

Probably not all that surprising, but I look forward to the Renaissance Fair every year. It’s like going to a very nerdy theme park with great food and shopping.

Except there are people in chain mail underwear and weird, goth make up.

If you can get past some hairy, heavy-set men walking around and looking like Henry VIII, you’ll be able to enjoy the great atmosphere. The fair has a permanent home in the wooded part of Crownsville Fairgrounds which makes it secluded from everything else. Shops and stages line the perimeter with food vendors everywhere shouting “SALTED PRETZELS” or “TURKEY LEGS!”

Whenever I go, I make sure to:
1. See The Bloody Drama Comedy Show that has a performer named Bob who looks eerily like Paul McCartney and has his own little following of women.
2. Eat as much food on a stick as I can including steak on a stake, macaroni and cheese and cheesecake.
3. Buy a piece of art
4. See one new show/act

For all you Renn Fest goers, what’s not to miss?

Male/Female sculpture and its love/hate relationship with Baltimore

August 17, 2008 at 11:37 am by Alisia Chapman

Photo courtesy of metromix.com When the Male/Female (known to some of us as the He-She) sculpture at Penn Station was installed by Penn Station 2004 people either loved it or hated it. There don’t seem to be as many haters as there used to be because when the He-She has come up in conversation and no one really seems to take offense to it anymore.I’m wondering if all the haters gave up or is there still a great divide between those who appreciate the sculpture and those who don’t? And who were the haters anyway — just stuffy people who don’t have something better to worry about?

U.S. women’s gymnastics team stumbles to medal it deserves

August 14, 2008 at 10:30 am by Matt Vensel

From today’s b the paper…

They have no one to blame but themselves.

As difficult as it is to say that about a group of American women — a term that barely applies to such youth — who have sacrificed the majority of their lives for the opportunity to compete in the 2008 Summer Olympic Games, it’s the stone-cold truth. The U.S. women’s gymnastics team had the gold medal within its reach Wednesday in Beijing, a window of opportunity opened by a slip-up by China’s Cheng Fei on the balance beam.

But nerves undid the Americans when it mattered most — not the long delay before their turn on the balance beam, not questionable judging and certainly not the dates on the birth certificates provided by Chinese officials. Read the rest of this entry »

1. Tattoos: Turn-off or turn-on?

Keith: Turn-on … small ones … on the lower back and inner thigh

Sam: Definitely a turn-on! Crappy/cliche tattoos- a denite turn off

Ben: Depends on the tatoo(s) — a definite turn-off

Amy: TURN-ON!!

2. Sweetest thing someone’s done for you?

Keith: My girl moved to the great city of Baltimore from Denver to be with me

Sam: This guy in high school wrote a song for me once. Cute, but embarrassing

Ben: A girlfriend who threw a surprise 30th birthday party for me at Cafe Hon. It eased the no-longer-in-20s angst

Amy: Boyfriend took me on vacation and said it was the best time he’d ever had (don’t care if it was bulls—)
