Here is your astrological forecast for Monday, March 8, courtesy of your resident scopetress Jen Bem.

Pisces 02.19-03.20
Ignoring a problem does not make it go away. You hate confrontation, but that doesn’t mean you should turn a blind eye. Give it some thought and handle the situation.

Aries 03.21-04.19
Boldly go where you’ve never gone before when gutsy Mars give you extra confidence. An adventurer such as yourself can never have too much of a good thing.

Taurus 04.20-05.20
Saturn is making you want bigger and better things today. You’re no longer satisfied with your apartment, car or your significant other. You have some re-evaluating to do.

Gemini 05.21-06.21
You’re all about telling it like it is today. No sugarcoating to make everyone feel good. Some may say your attitude is a bit over the top, but it never fails to get the job done.

Cancer 06.22-07.21
As surprising as it sounds, you do have some willpower stored away somewhere. You can say no to candy, shopping and exes all by yourself.

Leo 07.22-08.22
Neptune will show you just how sexy and sassy you can be tonight. You’ll have so much courage you won’t even need the liquid kind to get your mojo flowing.

Virgo 08.23-09.22
This afternoon you’ll be so fed up with a friend or co-worker you won’t worry about being nice anymore. They completely deserve your harsh words.

Libra 09.23-10.22
Don’t miss out on a great opportunity to hang out with an old friend because you’re too busy working. All work and no play makes a Libra lame.

Scorpio 10.23-11.21
You’ll have to share the spotlight with a friend who is celebrating a major life event today. Don’t get jealous — be supportive. They would do the same for you.

Sagittarius 11.22-12.21
Invite a new friend to get to know you better tonight. The moon will help you find out if this person will stick around your life and whether or not he’s worth investing the time and effort.

Capricorn 12.22-01.19
Life will be even more confusing than usual today. Instead of trying to figure out all of life’s little intricacies, bumps and hiccups, kick back and enjoy the ride.

Aquarius 01.20-02.18
Stop overanalyzing. You don’t have to decipher every little eye twitch from your boss or the glances you got from that cutie at the bar.

Lots of love for “The Hurt Locker.” A first-time female director win for Kathryn Bigelow. The dude abides. Sandra Bullock eked out the win. And “Precious” had a big night with hometown girl Mo’Nique picking up a lil’ gold man. Here’s the highs and lows of Sunday’s Oscar ceremony.

MOST UNEXPECTED COMEBACK: Good to know that Waldorf and Statler of the Muppets have been reincarnated in the form of host Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin doing their snarky show intro.

HOST DUTY: Split decision. Martin had a comfortable, worn-in feeling with his one-liners. Baldwin? Awkward and slightly wooden.

ACCEPTANCE SPEECH LINE WE PROMISE NOT TO USE ON DATES: “I love you more than rainbows” — Ryan Bingham, songwriter from “Crazy Heart”

WE’LL BE NICE: We’re still upset about Sandra Bullock winning compared to her competition, but clearly she’s a lovely, kind woman.

BALTIMORE REPRESENT: Good night for Charm City! Mo’Nique won supporting actress, “Music by Prudence,” co-produced by MICA professor Patrick Wright, won best short subject documentary and winner Sandra Bullock played Michael Oher’s adopted mom.

TRIBUTED OUT: We respect John Hughes’ work, but did he need an individual tribute, complete with the reanimation of Judd Nelson? We don’t remember, oh, Jimmy Stewart or Frank Sinatra getting their own.

BEST SPEECH OF THE NIGHT: Original score winner Michael Giacchino’s “being creative is not a waste of time” wisdom.

WEIRDEST PRE-SHOW QUOTE: Gabourey Sidibe on her dress: “If fashion was porn, this dress is the money shot and you know it.” OK, then.

WE NEVER THOUGHT: That E! pre-show host Ryan Seacrest would ever look like Walter Cronkite. Thanks, ABC pre-show host Kathy Ireland!

ODDEST MOMENT: Farrah Fawcett not in the in memoriam (aka: dead people) segment.

MOST UNCOMMITTED PRESENTER: Kristen Stewart. Really, pause to cough behind your shoulder?

MONTAGE PERSON WHO DIDN’T DO HIS HOMEWORK: Whoever decided to put “Twilight,” “Little Shop of Horrors” and “Young Frankenstein” in the horror films montage.

BIGGEST RECOMMENDATION: Someone new to write the presenter banter. Exhibit A: Rachel McAdams defining “adapt” for us.

MOST INCONGRUOUS MOMENT: The dancing sequence. When I think of “The Hurt Locker,” I definitely think of pop-and-locking.

1. ACC Tournament
(Thursday-Sunday on RAYCOM and ESPN): If you’re not hardcore enough to travel to Greensboro, N.C., to see if Gary Williams’ Terps can win their first ACC tourney since 2004, I guess you’ll have to tune in on TV. The downside: Duke players won’t be able to hear your boos. MATT VENSEL, B

2. ARTBus Tour
Six hours on a bus is rough, no matter your destination. But we make an exception for the annual Evergreen Museum and Library’s ARTBus, with artist/indie curator Jason Hughes leading an insidery look at the rising stars of Baltimore’s arts scene. Stops include AREA 405 and the H&H Arts Building, and feature artist and gallery owner meet-and-greets and chances to buy artwork. Originates Saturday from Evergreen (4545 N. Charles St., Charles Village) at 9:30 a.m., returns at 4 p.m. $80 (also includes box lunch, snacks and receptions). museums.jhu.edu or 410.516.0341. JORDAN BARTEL, B

3. They Might Be Giants
At first they were “those guys who had that ‘Istanbul’ song on ‘Tiny Toons.’” Then I got to college and they were “those Johns who write about racist friends.” Friday, they’ll be “that band I get to see with my husband at the Recher Theatre.” 8 p.m. $25. rechertheatre.com. MARISSA GALLO, B

4. ‘America’s Next Top Model’ season premiere
Now that I have “Lost” and “ANTM” back, I’ll never have to leave my couch again. It’s not as exciting as the short-tastic last cycle, but a new batch of models means a new batch of drama. And more time for me to figure out Ms. Jay. Premieres 8 p.m. Wednesday, The CW. MARISSA GALLO, B

5. ‘The Stoning of Soraya M.’ on DVD
The title says it all. Definitely not a romantic comedy, “The Stoning” is based on a true story about uncivil law and lack of human rights for women in Iran. Out Tuesday. thestoning.com. BRIAN KRISTA, B

6. Broke gamers month
March marks the beginning of a rough-on-the-pocketbook month for gamers. This week we’ve got highly anticipated “Final Fantasy XIII” coming out for Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 Tuesday. The uber-cute and insanely addictive “Pokémon” series is back in the form of “Heart Gold” and “Soul Silver,” both coming out Sunday. Gotta catch’em all, right? TIM WONG, B

7. Gorillaz, Plastic Beach
It’s very rare that I get excited about a new CD. It’s even rarer when I’m willing to spend money for one. But any time Gorillaz drops an album — their last was released in 2005 — I can’t wait to pick it up. If Plastic Beach is half as good as Demon Days, consider me content. MATT VENSEL, B

8. ‘She’s Out of My League’
We’ve seen this before: Dorky (but not that unattractive) and good-hearted dude meets hot chick who stereotypically wouldn’t go for him. There’s a reason the device is so popular — it’s relatable, fun and quirky. Plus, “League” finally gives Jay Baruchel (“Tropic Thunder,” “Knocked Up”) the leading man role he deserves. Opens Friday. JORDAN BARTEL, B

9. Baltimore Mariners
Baltimore’s other football team, the Mariners of the American Indoor Football Association, gets its 2010 season started with a home-opener against the New Jersey Revolution. 4 p.m. Sunday, 1st Mariner Arena. BRIAN KRISTA, B

10. Haiti relief concert
Just a reminder: Things still suck in Haiti. To help, JV Myka Project, Wayne Johnson of Under Command, Critical Element, Nuke the Soup and White Shadow will perform, with all proceeds dedicated to earthquake relief through the American Red Cross. Rock along, and you can help, too. 8 p.m. Friday, Senator Theatre, 5904 York Road. $10 in advance (bandchitickets.com), $15 at the door. ADAM SAPIRO, B

Sports fans love to talk about sports — especially here in Baltimore — so we’d like to give our readers with sports-savvy an opportunity to rant and rave about what’s going on in the world of sports, both locally and nationally. Each weekday, we’ll pose a new question for you to discuss at the water cooler. Here’s your chance to be an armchair quarterback. Now speak up, play nice and let us know what you think.

Today’s topic at the water cooler:
What’s the Ravens’ biggest need now?

Finally, the Ravens have made the big move you’ve all been clamoring for.

According to Jamison Hensley of The Baltimore Sun, the Ravens are on the verge of trading for Cardinals wide receiver Anquan Boldin. The Ravens will send a third-round pick and a fourth-round pick in this year’s draft to Arizona for Boldin and a fifth-round pick in next month’s draft. ESPN’s Adam Schefter is reporting that the Ravens will sign Boldin to a four-year, $28-million deal.

So what are the Ravens getting in Boldin? Well, based on the physicality he brings to the football field, Boldin is like a younger, more explosive version of Steelers receiver Hines Ward (I know you hate Ward, but admit it, at least once you’ve thought that he wouldn’t look bad in purple). Boldin is a valuable possession receiver with a running-back mentality. He doesn’t shy away from contact, and he can turn routine catches underneath coverage into big plays. He also has the speed to get downfield, too, but he’s not a total burner.

There is one concern, though, now that a new contract already appears to have been hammered out. While Boldin reminds me a lot of Ward, he doesn’t possess that same sort of durability, which is worrisome considering the way Boldin plays the game. He’s missed nine games over the past three seasons. That’s not too alarming, but it’s something that probably gave the Ravens a little pause. Still, for the low cost at which he was required, Ravens GM Ozzie Newsome smartly overlooked the small amount of risk.

Make no mistake, acquiring Boldin is a home run.

In seven seasons, Boldin has made 586 catches for 7,520 yards and 44 touchdowns. He’s the go-to guy the offense sorely lacked (no offense to Derrick Mason). Joe Flacco should be doing cartwheels right now. With the trade for Boldin and the signing of Donte’ Stallworth, his weapons have been considerably upgraded. Now the pressure is on Flacco, as Ravens owner Steve Bisciotti suggested a few weeks ago, to take the team to the next level.

I’ve got a lot of thoughts running through my head right now, which I will scribble down and convert into a print column early next week, but I wanted to get the news out there. What do you all think of the deal?

Of course Greivis Vasquez won his last game at Comcast Center {thanks, AP}

A lot went down the past few days, with the O’s starting the spring season and the Ravens getting tender with players, but let’s be honest: This week was all about Greivis and the Terps.

[1] The Terps secured their signature win of the season Wednesday night, beating Duke to pull in a first-place tie with the Blue Devils in the ACC. The Terps are red-hot at the right time, but don’t worry about brackets and seeding and selection committees just yet. Take a few days to celebrate this win — though not like what went down in College Park (but hey, if you want to set the family sofa on fire, go nuts.) I’m all for a good sports-related riot, but I’ll admit, I was surprised by this one. Did they really think there was any way Greivis Vasquez would lose his last game at Comcast Center?

[2] Josh Bell was in full beast mode during his spring debut Wednesday, smacking a pair of homers in the Orioles’ 12-2 win over the Rays. The O’s top position prospect is in the same boat that Matt Wieters was in last spring, though. Barring an injury to an O’s regular, there isn’t anything he can do to crack the big-league roster at the end of camp. But if Bell continues to impress this spring and starts strong in Triple-A, we’ll see him at Camden Yards sometime this summer.

[3] Monday night, O’s players and management hung out with college hoops icon Dick Vitale, a Sarasota resident. I like Dickie V, but I bet hearing him call the O’s young guns “diaper dandies” all night got annoying really fast.

[4] Yawn. The Capitals made four underwhelming deals before Wednesday’s trade deadline. I know the Caps can score like crazy, but they needed to add a steady goalie and/or a couple of real defensemen to the mix.

[5] There is no news on the Derrick Mason front, which is still news as free agency approaches. He wants a multi-year deal to stay here, but I doubt he gets one.

[6] Speaking of receivers, it appears two good ones, Anquan Boldin and Brandon Marshall will be available this offseason. No, really. They actually are this time. Arizona is reportedly willing to part with Boldin for a third-round pick. And Marshall, who received a first-round tender as a restricted free agent, can be had for a first-rounder. Ravens GM Ozzie Newsome loves his draft picks, but he has said he’s not opposed to wheeling and dealing this offseason. The question is, who would you rather have (at those reported prices)? I’d take Boldin.

[7] And speaking of tenders, the Ravens gave tender love to a bunch of players this week, including Jared Gaither and Le’Ron McClain. That doesn’t mean they’re totally locked down, though. You never know, a team might think a young left tackle like Gaither is worth a first-rounder. Anything is possible during this crazy, uncertain, uncapped offseason.

Still coming down from the unexpectedly riveting Winter Olympics? We’ve got you covered. Here’s our pop culture week in review — with a bit of Olympics chaser to go down smoothly.

VIENNA WINS ‘THE BACHELOR’: Apparently, not just for sausages anymore.

ASTRO-NUT: Oh, Buzz Aldrin. You can either talk scientifically about bringing man to Mars or you can join the cast of “Dancing With the Stars.” But not both.

LINDSAY LOHAN TO PEN MEMOIR: Stop trying to make “respectability” happen, Lindsay. It’s not going to happen.

WOMAN PRETENDING TO BE DIDDY’S WIFE ARRESTED: We’d totally believe an insanity defense for this one.

BLANKET JACKSON’S COUSIN TRIES TO ATTACK HIM WITH STUN GUN: It’s really just the 46th weirdest thing to happen to a Jackson family member.

LIFE CHANGE?: We may quit our job and start our own business just so we can be on one of the planned spinoffs of History Channel’s “Pawn Stars.”

ENVIRONMENTALLY UNFRIENDLY: It’s kind of hard for us to accept Sarah Palin pitching a “Planet Earth”-esque show about Alaska considering she kills wolves from a plane.

ALREADY BOOKING OUR FLIGHT: China now has a dwarf theme park called Kingdom of Little People. Suck it, Busch Gardens.

“LATE NIGHT ALL-NIGHTER CHEESEBURGER” FLAVORED DORITOS RELEASED: We tried one, but then preferred to keep our taste buds (and colon) intact.

2 PUSSYCAT DOLLS QUIT THE GROUP: They’re finally joining the rest of us who did the same thing four years ago.

Will “Avatar” win Best Picture Sunday night at the Oscars? {thanks, 20TH CENTURY FOX}

So, who really votes for the Oscars? Members of the Academy — actors, directors, writers, cinematographers. Even PR people. We’re none of those, but it doesn’t mean we can’t pretend. For b’s second Oscar Panel of Greatness (trademark pending), we enlisted the help of four local movie buffs to pick who’d they vote for in six major categories if they had an official ballot in their movie-loving hands. Love was spread around, even for people who weren’t nominated — though there was one consensus pick. As we get ready for Sunday’s Oscar ceremony, here’s a look at our Oscar faves this year.

(But first, meet our panel.)

Michelle Early (29, Bowie). Occupation: writer/editor, U.S. Department of Transportation. Favorite film of 2009: “Not Easily Broken”

Kevin Walling (24, Mount Vernon). Occupation: director of development and communications, Equality Maryland. Favorite film of 2009: “Creation”

Kristen Anchor (36, Waverly). Occupation: director, Creative Alliance MovieMakers (CAmm). Favorite film of 2009: “Stingray Sam”

Carlin Cook (28, Abingdon). Occupation: research analyst by day, filmmaker by night. Favorite film of 2009: “Trick ‘r Treat”

Jordan Bartel (28, Mount Vernon). Occupation: assistant editor, b. Favorite film of 2009: “Inglourious Basterds”

Best Picture:

MICHELLE: “Inglourious Basterds.” The movie was a great combination of funny and somber, fiction and fact. It was a really great cast — Brad Pitt was absolutely hilarious — and I was amazed at how quickly the 2 ½ hours went by.
CARLIN: “The Hurt Locker.” One of the most original stories for a 2009 film, it successfully tread through serious new territory while keeping the viewer fully engaged. Numerous scenes take the viewer for a nail-biting ride while making important cinematic points.
KEVIN: “Avatar.” Again, what Cameron has done has changed filmmaking forever. Obviously the plot needed a lot of work and it was fairly campy at moments, but in the end, “Avatar” is nearly impossible to beat.
KRISTEN: “Precious.” The underdog for sure, but I loved this film. As a professional champion for local, indie films, I would love to see an indie win best picture again.
JORDAN: I’d be happy if “The Hurt Locker” won, but my vote has got to be for “Inglourious Basterds.” It was innovative, awesomely violent, turn-the-war-film-on-its-head magic. Who says history can’t be rewritten?
YOUR PICK FROM BTHESITE.COM POLL: “Avatar” — 38%

Best Actor:

MICHELLE: Jeff Bridges. For the first time since the early ’90s, I wanted to light a candle and sway from side to side.
CARLIN: Sharlto Copley in “District 9.” Copley tackled an unbelievably demanding role in a fast-paced format. A large amount of his dialogue was improvised, which further speaks to his acting talents. His role was both mentally and physically demanding.
KEVIN: I’m not much of a George Clooney fan, but his performance in “Up in the Air” is spot-on and inspired.
KRISTEN: Jeremy Renner. Another underdog, but this time for a larger-than-life performance, which seems 180 degrees from one of my other picks, Gabourey Sidibe. But at the core, both performances investigate the struggle to survive in extreme crisis using their own forms of self-delusion as a coping mechanism.
JORDAN: I’m not as crazy over Bridges as everyone else, and despite the fact that I want Morgan Freeman to be my grandfather, “Invictus” kind of blew. But Colin Firth really stood out for me — his struggle and grief were palpable.
YOUR PICK FROM BTHESITE.COM POLL: Jeff Bridges, “Crazy Heart” — 36%

FROM LEFT: “Precious” director Lee Daniels, Gabourey Sidibe and Xosha Roquemore {thanks, ANNE MARIE FOX}

Best Actress:

MICHELLE: Tiana (aka: Anika Noni Rose), “The Princess and the Frog.” I don’t care what anyone says: Tiana deserves a medal (or at least some Purell …) for kissing a mucous-covered frog. ’Nuff said.
CARLIN: Gabourey Sidibe. Her ability to handle such raw material at such a young age and be convincing in the role was more than a sell for me.
KEVIN: As a self-respecting gay man, not supporting Meryl Streep’s incredible performance in “Julie and Julia” would be a bigger lie than saying we’ve had a mild winter in Charm City. Bon appetit!
KRISTEN: Sidibe’s performance in “Precious” stands out as subtle and understated in a pool of overacted Hollywood spectacle. That the best performance was turned in by a young, overweight unknown black woman over any number of overeducated, anorexic white women is just icing on the cake.
JORDAN: Watch Sidibe’s performance. Go back another day and watch it again and take in the full measure of it — the guttural voice, the body language, the woman clearly on a never-steady rope between hopeful and hopeless. And all this in a debut performance. She deserves it.
YOUR PICK FROM BTHESITE.COM POLL: Gabourey Sidibe, “Precious” — 40%

Best Director:

MICHELLE: Quentin Tarantino. I watched a lot of his films for research in undergrad, so I have an appreciation for his potential and I really loved how this story came together. The pace was great, the scenes were beautifully executed, and it unfolded like a storybook.
CARLIN: Weaving drama with beauty in his direction of this film, Tarantino proved yet again he’s a master of his art. Numerous scenes will have you in awe.
KEVIN: I must confess that I objected for a long time to going to see “Avatar,” but no other director has revolutionized movie-making as much as James Cameron has done with this film. Simply breathtaking.
KRISTEN: Kathryn Bigelow. A tense and beautifully claustrophobic indie film made under what sounds like relentless conditions. I’ve seen a lot of films about addiction and a lot about war — not to mention a number about men who develop addictions after a war, but this is the first I’ve seen that pinpoints addiction to war.
JORDAN: I want to give it to Cameron for sheer ballsy-ness, but my heart goes to Bigelow. Her masterful direction showed in the intricate details, the devastating performances and the white-knuckle tension.
YOUR PICK FROM BTHESITE.COM POLL: James Cameron, “Avatar” — 37%

Best Supporting Actor:

MICHELLE: Christoph Waltz was mysterious, funny, unpredictable and witty. Hans was like the Sherlock Holmes of Nazis. He was the guy you just love to hate.
CARLIN: Giovanni Ribisi in “Avatar.” Although the story for the movie was typical Hollywood formula, Ribisi infused wonderful moments of snarky entertainment mixed with moments of sobering drama.
KEVIN: Christopher Plummer. Great role. To think that Captain Georg von Trapp from “The Sound of Music” hasn’t won an Oscar over his decades of acting is simply criminal.
KRISTEN: Waltz. A great villain and he did win at Cannes, so this was an easy choice. Waltz made this Tarantino flick chilling — whipped cream never seemed so menacing.
JORDAN: It was a close call between Harrelson and Waltz, but it’s just too damn hard to ignore the power and virtuosity of Waltz’s “Jew Hunter.” He’s humorous and terrifying all in one tasty package.
YOUR PICK FROM BTHESITE.COM POLL: Christoph Waltz, “Inglourious Basterds” — 64%

Best Supporting Actress:

MICHELLE: Mo’Nique. I got chills up my spine just watching the preview for this movie a year ago. I knew she was going to deliver an outstanding performance, and her role as Mary was a tour de force.
CARLIN: Mo’Nique. Never has a mother been so mean in a film. Staying in character and delivering dialogue in a believable manner made her a definite standout.
KEVIN: How could I not support a fellow Baltimorean? Mo’Nique’s performance was incredibly moving — especially given the fact that she’s not a trained dramatic actress.
KRISTEN: Mo’Nique terrified me, and months later I still feel fear when I think about her character. The tired old “Saw” franchise is psychologically wimpy in comparison.
JORDAN: Mo’Nique’s riveting performance left me with a lump in my throat for hours. In a role that could have easily been comically over-the-top, her utter hopelessness oozed reality.
YOUR PICK FROM BTHESITE.COM POLL: Mo’Nique, “Precious” — 69%

Here is your astrological forecast for the weekend of March 5-7 courtesy of your resident scopetress Jen Bem.

Pisces 02.19-03.20
Get your art on this weekend with Neptune as your muse. You’ll be surprised by how good it feels to try something new while tapping into your creative side.

Aries 03.21-04.19
Reward yourself for a job well done when you complete a task that has taken a lot of time and effort. You deserve to splurge after all the work you just did. Just be sure not to go overboard or expect to have a harsh return to reality.

Taurus 04.20-05.20
The moon will send you sensuous vibes this weekend. Plan to go out with friends to show off your sexy attitude and look.

Gemini 05.21-06.21
Mercury will make you much more aggressive than normal. Your buddies will probably never let you drive anywhere again after a serious bout of road rage.

Cancer 06.22-07.21
You don’t have to spend big bucks on a fancy spa treatment in order to unwind. The sun will show you how to pamper yourself on the cheap. Maybe your new love interest will help.

Leo 07.22-08.22
Push through the boring crap you got stuck with this weekend so you can get to the fun stuff, such as going out with friends or having a romantic evening with your honey.

Virgo 08.23-09.22
This weekend will be very busy for you. You’ll be juggling outings with friends, family and a new romantic interest. Keep the crazy schedule in check so you don’t wear yourself out.

Libra 09.23-10.22
Saturn will cause you to be extremely health-conscious this weekend. Choose a salad instead of a greasy burger and walk instead of taking the bus. Your body will thank you.

Scorpio 10.23-11.21
Take time for yourself this weekend. Jupiter will help you relax and forget the piles of paperwork sitting on your desk. Don’t make plans for the next few days.

Sagittarius 11.22-12.21
Guilt trips and family obligations will put you in situations you’d rather not be in, but it’s hard for you to say no. Start practicing or stop complaining.

Capricorn 12.22-01.19
Have the confidence to meet and impress new people this weekend. It’s not clear how these new acquaintances will affect your life, but networking is always a must.

Aquarius 01.20-02.18
When you hear an ex bashing you this weekend, you’ll feel down. However, Mars will quickly take you from self-pity to full on fury. You know you don’t deserve that treatment.
