Welcome to b. So, what do you think?

Questions, answers, complaints and - dare we say it? - praise for b.

Welcome to b. So, what do you think?

Postby timwindsor on Mon Apr 14, 2008 6:48 am

We've been working on the launch of b and bthesite.com for a long time now, so we're probably a little too close to this thing to have an objective point of view.

But what do you think? What do you like? What should we change? What would you like to know from the staff?

Have at it - it's your paper, it's your site. We just happened to kick it off.

Concentrate on local issues, places, people and events and this should make for interesting reading.

Nice use of relating colors. Is this going to be like the City Paper? If so, hopefully not so freaky.

Cheers!

Actually, for those of us enjoying your content in an aggregator, why aren't your articles full-text? I appreciate that there is an RSS feed for b, but must every post make use of the <MORE> tag?

I like the layout of the site and the aggregation of local content, but please consider not forcing aggregator readers to click out. If you are truly trying to be different from your parent publication, then you will get rid of this annoying element.

The site looks good, but it's pretty light on original content. Not at all impressed with the lead blogger chick so far. And Nestor Aparicio -- are you friggin' joking me? He's such a self-important ass. But whatever....

I really wanted to check out the printed b, but everywhere I looked for it today the boxes were empty. I hope that means an eager public was clamoring for copies, and not that you never got around to delivering them to all the orange boxes.

It'll be interesting to see how the pub does. Good luck.

As an obsessive feedreader user myself, I'm with you completely. We're looking into whether it's possible to both have the split posts - and get more stories onto the home page - and to have the full posts show up in the XML feed.

Update when I have it.

Maybe you're familiar with a weekly TV show that aired on WBFF Fox 45 a few years ago called "Just B TV," because that seems to be where you ripped off your color scheme AND name.

I was also interested in reading the printed version of this pub, but alas, the big brand new orange box on the corner of Howard and Pratt was completely empty. By 10am? What gives?

I think there is an audience for the potential you, but I don't think where your at is where you'll need to be. Perhaps I am not your target market. I'm 23, don't live with my parents, don't bar hop, and am in a career. Perhaps your demographic is highschool or college age? Or maybe I'm just traditional.

I was hoping for a publication that took the 35-21 age group seriously, not just tried to sell us advertising. I find most blogs are just rants or ramblings at best and have little substance other than self therapy for the writer. I'd rather find my information from a reliable source. I don't care what celeb was wearing or doing what. I'd rather hear something unique from other professionals my age, and not biased political coverage. I guess that's expected though, as you're part of the Baltimore Sun.

I realize that you're on a weekly cycle though so I'll give the rest of the week a try. Perhaps you have more substance in you.

This is brilliant, Tim. If you need some assistance, as I have yet to poke around under the hood of bthesite to see what it is running on, please let me know.

Thanks,
Jason
